This makes less sense than game of the year Red Orchestra 2.
Game of the year is just a title for those games as a pack, so they can put all DLC into it.
"Complete Edition" sounds less appealing
how
Because "GOTY" makes you think the game is actually good, when "Complete Edition" means nothing if the game sucks.
Yeah, exactly. AFAIK nobody actually certifies games for a GOTY award, it's just a title slapped on to games and all their DLC in one package.
worst game of the year
worst game of the year
It was fun with friends.
I like how they release this just after the steam sale as a nice fuck you thanks for all the money,

Actually a shitty obscure gaming website actually named this as their GOTY
they apparently only got to review that game during the entire year or something
Just an FYI too, it's $19.99 now, it used to be $29.99
Also personally I don't get the hate about Dead Island. I mean, it wasn't anything spectacular, I agree that the story and a lot of the voice acting was horrible, however gameplay wise I found it quite entertaining and as far as open-world zombie games go, it was pretty decent. I understand it had a buggy release, however those issues have since been resolved.
Also probably worth mentioning I only played with myself, I would like to try it with friends sometime though, but as a singe-player game I didn't have any issues with it (apart from cut scenes showing all 4 characters even if you were the only one there)
Once they got the launch issues ironed out it was an alright game, but obviously better with friends.
I wouldn't buy it at full price but it was worth whatever it was during the sale.
I liked it. I'm not sure if I feel like playing it again, but one day I might buy the Ryder White DLC just to get the other side of the story (even though someone had spoiled it for me back when it came out).

Yeah it's pretty unpolished but the combat was really refreshing to me
Unlike in every other zombie game, each zombie was a threat and you had to put actual effort into taking each one down. (which was really the only realistic aspect of the game)

well that's an obscure shitty gaming website, not like the ESRB or something (implying they actually know anything about games)

i think people were sour that this looked promising at first and then they "casualized" it
I still found it fun TBH, jumping in and out of co-op with friends
The game wasn't bad, but it was in no way GOTY worthy.

Yeah I'd agree with that. The hate bandwagon for this game started when they showed newer gameplay videos, not when the game was released.
I believe it would be much more well received if they believed it was more arcadey from the beginning and it didn't have some embarrassing launch issues.
Devs should really only be able to release GOTY editions if their game was actually game of the year IMO, and this game definitely wasn't. It was a best an awesome concept that was hideously executed and fell massively short of the hype it created.
If we're going to talk about the flaws the game had, I'd say the money and weapon crafting system. I kept dying because i was looking for items to make proper weapons and then never had enough money or supplies to make them.
the controls were clunky and horrible, and I couldn't care less about the characters you play as.
Not even Sam B?
Not even Sam B?
The opening just immediately made me play as Sam B.
He hoodoo'd my voodoo, bitch.
Sam B motherfucker.
I enjoyed Dead Island so much.
I personally enjoyed it more alone than with friends, because I could explore everything at my own pace, obviously this is but a personal preference, the game's not bad actually, it might get old for you after a while if you don't like repetition however.
Why is it 20$ when the full game is 50$?
Are they naming a DLC pack "GOTY"?
I enjoyed the game to and completed it alone. I still haven't completed the DLC though.
Sam B motherfucker.
Sam B only knows one letter, and that is GASPEDAL
It was fun with friends.
(all games are fun with friends)

The original version is gone. The GOTY edition is the only version now. Pricing the GOTY edition at $19.99 is pretty generous considering how the GOTY edition is a new release.
