My parents pay 45 dollars a month for some shitty internet service ( nyair.net) And we get around 30-40KB/s, which is significantly less than the speeds they advertise on the site.
We've called, and gotten a different excuse everytime.
1. the antenna on our house is old
2. Their system is old
3. There's trees in the way
4. We need like an extra 30 feet to the antenna
5. you're a bitch and you're wrong (not kidding about that one)
The only other option is dial-up. because Greene County is hicktopia and actually the worst county in New York for internet.
pls help. I set planetside 2 to download last night on my ps4 and it timed out an hour after I set it
(yes I know there's a difference between KB and kb)
(wasn't sure whether or not to put it in hardware and software, or here. I felt it wasn't an actual hardware problem just a shitty company so I put it here)
thanks
Is it possible that you could get an LTE wi-fi hotspot (or something along the lines of that) with unlimited data? Maybe at least 3G? That's the only option I can think of other than what you have right now or dial-up.

And are you absolutely sure DSL isn't available?

Yep. DSL/Cable ends a mile one way and a half mile the other. Sucks, we're on a county route too.
the wifi hotspot would be really expensive, and i'm not sure there's any with unlimted data.
My whole family (5 people) Gets 20gbs a month for cellphones. I occasionally hook my phone up if it's important, but other than that a mobile hotspot isn't really an option.
Would the BBB do anything? We've tried calling my ISP and complaining but it usually results in being cussed out, or being told to "go get another service if you don't like ours"
These people are using an older technology than what we use. I've worked at at company that deploy this type of internet service, and I can tell you maybe a thing or two about it.
Check the antenna that they put up an see if there is clear line of sight to their tower. If you can't reach it. Look in the direction and see if there are any trees or obstacles in the way. 5Ghz doesn't fare with trees that well.
