• Injury to Colts' Dwight Freeney is 'severe' ligament tear

Colts DE Dwight Freeney is dealing with a "severe" ankle injury that is a major threat to his availability in Sunday's Super Bowl, a sports medicine expert said Monday. The Colts acknowledged on Sunday that Freeney has a "third-degree low basketball sprain" in his right ankle and arrived in Florida to receive treatment ahead of his teammates. Dr. Steven Weinfeld, chief of foot and ankle surgery in the Orthopedics Department New York's Mount Sinai Hospital, said such a sprain is the "highest grade." "What they're taking about is an inversion-type injury, meaning the foot turns in and you tear the ligaments on the outside of the ankle," Weinfeld said. "This could easily take 6-8 weeks to recover from." Weinfeld has not examined Freeney and has no first-hand knowledge of the Colts' Pro Bowler. But he said the ankle injury is especially serious for the undersized (6-1, 268 pounds) Freeney, who depends on his speed and athleticism to chase apply pressure to quarterbacks. "This is really going to hinder him," Weinfeld said. "In a cutting type of athlete, this is potentially a difficult thing to play through." Colts coach Jim Caldwell said Monday that Freeney is a "quick healer" and that the Colts are prepared to have him sit out of practice all week and wait as long as game time before deciding whether he can play. "There's been many weeks where he's had some situations that have looked like he would not be able to play but he's been able to battle through it and not only play, but play well," Caldwell said on Sirius NFL Radio. "So he's a quick healer and we're praying for the same thing to happen this week as well." Weinfeld said that if Freeney plays, he'll have to rely on heavy taping and bracing to protect the ankle. But he did not offer a promising prognosis. Source: http://content.usatoday.com/communities/thehuddle/post/2010/02/expert-injury-to-colts-dwight-freeney-is-severe-ligament-tear/1 :geno:

Yeah sad day, but the last time they said he was going to be out for 6 weeks he came back the next day... If only Bob Sanders didn't get injured every other play. If we had him for an entire season we would be in a lot better shape.
I haven't had this fucking avatar since the day I joined for no reason. Geaux Saints.
