Here's one for $700: http://www.bestbuy.ca/en-ca/product/acer-acer-swift-3-14-laptop-silver-intel-i5-6200u-256gb-ssd-8gb-ram-windows-10-sf314-51-53mf/10497399.aspx?path=a6ef78fa58594e09a0336191f6de8c92en02 I don't know jack about computers, but my brother helped me find this one and swears on it because an SSD computer is supposed to be awesome. I just need something that'll run non-demanding games like hearthstone and WoW (I don't mind lower settings) and for school purposes. I was looking at this one as well for $500, but it's not an SSD, and it's also sold out at the moment. Any quirks about the brand? I've heard things like Lenovo preloading spyware or some shit on their laptops, or HP always using the shittiest, cheapest parts for their computers.
It depends on how many programs you're going to have installed. 256GB storage is reasonable for me because all that I have on my laptop is Microsoft Office and MYOB. But if you're going to have lots of games, the 1TB ASUS may be better. SSDs are quite convenient, otherwise. The 256GB Acer mentions its battery life (up to 10 hours), while the 1TB ASUS does not mention battery life at all, and considering that the ASUS has an AMD CPU and 12GB of RAM, it's fair to say that the ASUS would have relatively terrible battery life.
You would probably be better of by asking this in the Hardware and Software section of the forum.

The Acer craps all over the ASUS. AMD has awful battery life compared to intel for at best, slightly similar performance.
Those APU's are fantastic for HTPC's and that's about it
