• Problem with G-Mod

Hi, My friend has a problem with G-Mod. I have a rough idea what it could be but I was hoping someone can point me in the right direction of the problem. I don't have his specs but his machine is more than capable of running Half Life 2 and G-Mod itself. Here is the image he sent me. Any advice and help would be great! Cheers, JC
since you at least posted properly Next time, post in gmod help and support on the left hand side of the facepunch homepage But that looks like he's overheating
Sorry it was my first post, and I only saw this technical help section. Is it possible to move this thread please? Overheating? Hmmm I was thinking more of a graphics card problem. Can it be resolved?
Yes he meant your graphics card is overheating.
Get hwmonitor and check the GFX card and CPU temps. If they are too high (up to 85 on load could be normal), get some canned air and rid of the dust in the fan and sink. Hold the fan while spraying so it won't spin, don't shake the can, nor hold it upside down. It could also be caused by outdated drivers. get new ones from the manufacturers website.
I'll tell him to download hwmonitor. The thing is, he has tried to update his drivers but it keeps coming up with a system requirement error every time he updates. I'll pass on the information. He does have a Dell Optiplex 745 minimum spec if that helps.
What video card does he have? The PSU's in those Dells (most busniness PC's) are usually not powerful enough for gamer cards. But if he's using an onboard Intel card: There's your problem.
Minimum spec Optiplex 745 sounds like crap. Gmod will run like shit on it. Temps with HWMonitor.
That's an old version of gm_construct, either he re-downloaded old maps or there's more to be asked Does he own a proper, steam version of the game? Naturally, if it isn't it's going to run terribly, bad computer or not
It is a genuine version of the game because I sent it to him as a gift with CS:Source via the Steam autumn sale lol. I'm pretty sure he said that he didn't have a integrated Intel chip. I'll have to ask again. Thanks for the quick replies guys. Appreciate it.
No problem. I've experienced similar graphics issues to that, it is generally either a dying or overheating video card, or a rare case that the drivers are screwed up, it's always good idea to keep them updated
