Hey, just wondering what's the strongest magnet you can buy?
I know neodymium magnets are strong but I am wondering is there any stronger than that?
Why not build your own?

You mean like the one in breaking bad?
I meant magnets that are just like, there, permanent ones.

If I was to do that - I doubt I would live, knowing my shit luck -> Nails from walls would come out and go straight through my head most likely.
What's this magnet for before we continue to ask about stuff? That can change a lot.

Nothing, it's just to be laid on my desk, when I am reading or watching something I just fiddle around with them, not even sure what thats called when you just sit doing nothing and just toss or touch something in your hands.
From time to time - I use magnets on screwdrivers to temporary magnetize tip of it to screw in screws into hard to each parts.
I wouldn't go for too powerful magnet then. The last thing you wanna do is accidentally slide on your desk onto your laptop or something.
I wonder -if I was to order a box of some N52 grade magnets, how many curse words would be said in whole shipping process when a box gets stuck to conveyor belt bolts or some plane floor :v:

I am trying to remember name of that thing that was popular.
Basically like 50 magnet balls and you could buy a bunch of shit from it. Any idea?

buckyballs?
www.buckyballsstore.com
Large neodymium magnets are actually dangerous. If you're looking for a magnet desk toy then get some bucky balls.
I just googled that, all results say bucky balls failed and got recalled or something?
I just googled that, all results say bucky balls failed and got recalled or something?
Not so much they failed, but rather the cpsc sued them for endangering children and they were no longer able to make their only product, so they took the money and shut down at minimum notice needed. The recall was court ordered, and the number of incidents that were caused by them were literally caused by giving them to an age group that they were not meant for.
Didn't a few children die from eating Buckyballs?
Didn't a few children die from eating Buckyballs?
What haven't children died from eating?
Didn't a few children die from eating Buckyballs?
Eating bucky balls, and then entering an MRI machine.
AKA, a large magnetic machine you go into.
It's a shame kids using magnets for dangerous stuff ruin it for everyone wanting to do dangerous stuff with magnets.

This baby can be yours for just €120 ($132). It's called the Monolith, and is able to support 200 kg when placed on a metal surface. link

My balls cringed watching that.

Jesus christ, I've accidentally brought a metal walking stick with a notable amount of ferromagnetic metal into (and as soon as felt the pull and realised I was a dumbfuck, out of) a 1.5T MRI room without feeling too concerned, and that magnet there scares me. That said, it might be the sheer force of slamming 2 of those things together that scares me.

I wonder did anyone measure force of two of those magnets slamming together.

buckeyballs and they were illegal unfortunatly (apparently people thought it was a kids toy)
You also could disassemble an old speaker for the magnet in it. One of my friends did and those things can be pretty powerful.

Do subs have magnets?
Basically any speaker should have magnets. I'm not sure if someone found a way to make speakers work without 'em, but if not, every single speaker in your house should, including subs.

Or swallowing several bucky balls and having them attract to each other as they pass through your innards.
Do subs have magnets?
Subs have the biggest magnets.
Old harddrives are also a great source of strong magnets.

Pretty much always neodymium, and they are attached to a metal backplate which makes them easy to handle/mount.
Yeah speaker magnets are fucking amazing in my opinion.
Just build your own cryogenic setup and make a superconducting magnet.
