Robin Williams was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of his suicide, authorities in California have revealed. The actor, 63, was found dead in his California home on 11 August in what authorities soon ruled a suicide. A Marin County coroner's report released on Friday found Williams died from asphyxia due to hanging.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-29963564
everything is terrible
I was just starting to forget about this too
I didn't know it was a suicide.
That's sadder than if drugs WERE involved...

well he had antidepressants in him antidepressants can be a life saver, or push people closer to the edge of suicide (i've seen it myself)
Bullshit title Crosspost from reddit
Robin Williams had no ILLEGAL drugs in his system. Don't say he had no drugs in his blood when he in fact did. He had two antidepressant drugs in his system. The same drugs that have suicide thought warnings right on the label.
i guess he was as sane as he was able to be at the time
Depression makes you do weird things. I went to a psych appointment on Friday, but I felt on Thursday as if I was a worthless piece of shit, and so much so that I actually wrote down a suicide note on the depression thread in general discussions. Depression isn't something which resides all the time, it's there... Looming and waiting to strike at the weirdest moments. Oddly enough it's the reason why the United States has a great deal of suicides. When you are capable of getting a rope, gun, or something to off yourself in a quick amount of time, it's not a matter of, "ohh I'll wait till tommorow" but rather think about how you'll leave your family and shit.
I wish he was the influence of drugs because at least he would have been out of it... What a shame.
no true depression is a serious as fuck illness. people that say "if youre depressed why dont you do something to make you happier???" fail to understand that. if youre really depressed its impossible to just "get over it" by yourself. when people say "uugh im feeling depressed" its a whole different thing. source: psychologist and was depressed for a good chunk of my life
Telling someone with true depression to snap out of it and be happy is like telling a person with cancer to stop having cancer
Telling someone with true depression to snap out of it and be happy is like telling a person with cancer to stop having cancer
This is pretty accurate. I'm still struggling with my studies this semester despite significant improvements in the last 6months. MDD is a bitch. :(
I've always found depression fascinating in that regard, but at the same time, horrifying. It can be insidious, and i mean that by the medical definition, it can rot you from your core while you still appear fine on the outside. I never suspected Robin was suffering from massive depression, he was just that smiley, funny actor that i liked. One of my best friends suddenly dropped out of school after failing most his classes. A fall from one of the most academically gifted people in the school. I never realised this or even had any inkling of it before he told me. Under the surface he harboured festering wound anxiety and depression. You can see why one of the biggest killers of young Australian men is suicide.
Maybe he should have had some illegal drugs in his system. Might have helped the poor guy.
:(
What reason could he have for suicide? I realize that many a thing can go wrong even if you live life in Hollywood, but he's a fucking actor with MONEY. Even if you hated every aspect of life, you could still live on just for the fuck of it because you are famous and you have MONEY.
a lot of recreational drugs can absolutely fuck someone up with depression, let alone severe clinical depression
Especially if you take them when you're on antidepressants, a lot of shit can get fucked up if you mix medications
Maybe he should have had some illegal drugs in his system. Might have helped the poor guy.
Not for long. Eventually an addiction would probably set in and that just pushes someone further into the infinite hole that is depression. The further someone is in their depression, the harder to pull them out. Depression isn't something that can be "cured" per say, it can always come straight back. I remember discussing with a friend of mine the death of the Director in Red VS Blue. Long story short, I just said that the Director was pretty much well dead long before the main characters found him, because I've had depression myself. My friend just said "Dude, it's just a TV show" and passed it off as if there weren't real-life parallels between on-screen characters and real people.
He could've just gone to mexico on a drug sex trip :(
Especially if you take them when you're on antidepressants, a lot of shit can get fucked up if you mix medications
Even weed gave me horrible panic attacks when I was on SSRIs. To buy things that might make you happy. But what happens when your brain won't let you FEEL happiness anymore? What's the point of the goddamn MONEY then?
Especially if you take them when you're on antidepressants, a lot of shit can get fucked up if you mix medications
True, but clinical trials with LSD have shown it to have remarkable effects on one's mental well-being, if administered properly and in a controlled medical setting: http://edition.cnn.com/2010/HEALTH/08/24/psychedelic.drugs.depression/ (So, no; popping a few pills of LSD won't cure what ails you) It's been a few decades since it's been touched upon, but it seems certain forms of depression can be influenced by the use of LSD. Influenced; so both negatively and positively. Essentially LSD can lower psychological barriers, allowing therapy to be potentially more effective. Not saying that's it gonna cure depression or anything, but any research into better treatments should be welcomed, even if they do seem kinda weird/new-age-y (which LSD is, really).
Even weed gave me horrible panic attacks when I was on SSRIs.
This. I'd like to point out to anyone that you can't take weed lightly in combination with your normal medication, especially when it does things to your brain. When I smoked a bunch after my first month taking my SSRIs (Escitalopram if anyone cares) it had some really bad effects on me the following 4-5 days. Depression hit me hard and I was going through hell again, which is something the SSRIs (among other medication) are supposed to help me out of. It also negated some progress I made fighting my anxieties, possibly worsening the situation altogether. So please, do not think you can take weed out of the equation because it's natural. You shouldn't drink alcohol with your medicine, and neither should you smoke pot.
if you are clinically depressed you pretty much have it for life,
huh well here's to 70 some odd more years of my life being unhappy
Even if you hated every aspect of life, you could still live on just for the fuck of it because you are famous and you have MONEY.
I've been at the point of hating every aspect of life before, and can confirm that depending on how much you're tired of living, you can stop wanting to do it, no matter how illogical the reason may seem when you're not on the brink anymore.

There's children in Africa worse off than me that don't commit suicide, so I have no reason to. Right? Nnnnnnaaaaaaah.
