Federal Communications Commission member Ajit Pai yesterday vowed to take a "weed whacker" to FCC regulations after President-elect Donald Trump takes office, with net neutrality rules being among the first to be cut down.
Pai is the commission's senior Republican and could end up being the FCC chairman, at least on an interim basis until Trump chooses a long-term chair.
"I’m optimistic that last month’s election will prove to be an inflection point—and that during the Trump Administration, we will shift from playing defense at the FCC to going on offense," Pai said in a speech yesterday before the Free State Foundation in Washington, DC, said. The commission "need[s] to remove outdated and unnecessary regulations... We need to fire up the weed whacker and remove those rules that are holding back investment, innovation, and job creation," he also said.
Pai has consistently opposed consumer protection rules that the FCC's current Democratic majority imposed on ISPs, including the net neutrality order that forbids blocking, throttling, and paid prioritization.
:v:
I hate these kinds of scumfucks and their shit eating, grinning faces.
What he really means is "My masters want to suck and squeeze every last marginal decimal of profit out of the internet, and they cant do that as long as people are free to use it as they see fit."
As long as this doesn't leak into the EU, I am totally fine with America getting their VideoPackage for 9.99 extra or xxXTheGamerXxx package with Playstation Network, Xbox Live, Steam and other games for 15.99 extra on your subscription with a 50 GB cap on each package that if you overspend GBs you have to spend $50 for each extra 10 GBs.
Then you've got the Music Package with the same deal with Spotify, Pandora etc. But, don't worry. There'll probably be even more funny package ideas like the Netflix package and the YouTube package for only one service, so you have to subscribe to dozen more packages to get everything included in the Fancy Premium Internet Bundle for only 199 USD each month or maybe to get everything included probably more in the range of $500 each month.
Have fun.

I'm glad you're fine with a country that hosts a majority of websites along with a huge amount of internet user bases being exploited and I am glad you seem to not be aware that if our government fucks us over and gets away with it, other scummy governments will do much the same.

The market for ISPs in EU countries seems to actually have competition though, unless they got together (Which would probably be illegal anyway) they wouldn't be able to pull this sort of shit because the competition would step up to the plate.

Well, I just think it's less likely to pass any EU jurisdiction in the first place.

Eh, isn't UK a terrible place to be since there seems to be monopoly from Sky, BT and Virgin in UK? There's usually only one option if you live outside the cities too in UK or so I've heard.
does anyone know where to get nude scout models?
soeting like this

The only people the Trump voters can blame for this incoming dumpster fire are themselves. I wonder how they're going to defend this one.
Maybe they can fix Americas shitty internet infrastructure.
Maybe they can fix Americas shitty internet infrastructure.
it's already remaining shitty far beyond its time as a result of companies wanting to squeeze money out of minimal effort. Imagine if they were allowed do that, PLUS splice the ability to visit existing websites into paid access packages and throttle the fuck out of a lot of content if it's 'out of network'
I love this "fuck consumers, get money" mindset disguised as "improving innovation/stimulating economy/MAKE MORE JAWBS"
That going to be this entire presidency in a nutshell - you know, besides the global warming denial train and re-outlawing gay marriage.

When Google gets lawsuited for trying to improve the internet in America and Google then leave the market as they feel it's impossible to make an impact anymore.
You should then know your not welcome and the fact is they don't want it to be improved. It doesn't benefit them. They want to keep their monopoly and that's fine.

Government tyranny bad, corporate tyranny good.
I said this would happen. People told me it wouldn't if Trump won, they didn't listen.
Thanks guys.

No, the UK has pretty decent broadband. There might only be a handful of major ISPs, but coverage by all of them is generally good and customers are well protected by market competition and consumer protection laws. For example, the Advertising Standards Agency recently started enforcing tighter rules for ads, which require ISPs to show all-inclusive prices for broadband rather than splitting them into various costs and hiding some of them in the small text.
Yes, it's a crapshoot if you live out in a rural area, but that's true of most countries.

Interesting, well good to see it has improved. Heard from some UK a few years back that it was terrible outside of the cities with the service.
Does UK have internet caps at all?

It's actually not that bad over here apart from the terrible customer service from almost every provider but I think that's a given. Each provider offers something kinda different and there are a number of smaller and regional providers like plusnet that aren't too bad.

Same as usual
Continue ignoring these threads and insisting that it's not going to be as bad as all that despite the growing mountain of evidence that he is the complete antithesis of everything they thought he stood for and claiming Clinton would have been worse when they can be arsed to show up at all

what is collusion
if we're lucky, trump fucks up the internet so much that /pol/ and /r/t_d get ruined. that'd be hilarious.
remember, if you voted trump, you wanted this.
The good thing is that Riot Games already bought a backbone into the internet, so at least those who play League of Legends in the U.S won't be affected about this!
I actually wonder how companies are going to circumvent No Net Neutrality laws. It'll be fun to see.

God imagine the lynching mob as basically every other sub other than r/the_donald loses their shit at what they've done.

Companies like that weren't really at risk, because they'll be able to pay the tollman. It's that it's going to crush innovation and competition.
Also it doesn't mean you'll have access to riot games since you still have to go through your ISP. They control your pipe so if they really want to, you aren't getting around that.

im just sitting here laughing my balls off at trump promising to ruin the thing his NEET voterbase depends on. there's never been a greater irony in my life
I will have no sympathy for any Trump voter from here or places like /pol/ or /r/t_d who complains about this.
You made your bed - now go lie in it.
EDIT: if net neutrality does die though, I'm going to have a ton of sympathy for everyone else however. Here, we'd lose a lot of users. I can't imagine what will happen to SMWCentral and other sites I frequent.

Ah oh well, but I guess the solution would be to just buy out the "tollmen" for services like Netflix to circumvent the idea.
