My 1gen iPod touch (16gb) is almost full, and my dad is willing to buy me a new iPod (if I do chores and whatnot). The thing is, apple releases new Touch's yearly almost, so here's my question.
Should I just wait for the newest iPod to be released (in two years maybe) or should I buy the 3rd gen iPod now?

New iPod will likely be this summer.
If it gets updated it's probably a safe bet it'll be in September. Apple have refreshed the iPod line up in September each year since 2006.
It's a possibility the next model could have a camera (don't quote me on that) because of boards found in the 3rd gen and whatnot. If that turns out to be true it'd probably be worth the wait.
Ipod touch with a camera would make it complete

When the 3rd gen was dissected they found a board in it where there was a place for a camera to go.
Honestly, I can't see them putting a camera on the iPod touch. It becomes one less reason to own an iPhone and one more to own an iPod touch.
The next gen iPod Touch will be released this September I bet.. Tbh. I would wait, or get a iPod Classic..

Same thing I thought, but the camera board's there.... (if I remember correctly)
Step 15
it appears that Apple left in room for a camera in the top of the device. There is a 6mm x 6mm x 3mm space between the Broadcom chip and the wireless antenna. There isn't enough depth for an iPhone-style autofocus still camera, but just enough room for the camera that Apple used in the 5th generation iPod nano.
Waiting for the next gen to be announced before the purchase is usually sage Apple advice.
Anyway, I've heard from when the iPod 3Gen was released that there actually was room for a camera to fit.. An empty place, there.. So it could be a possibility perhaps. But probably not.
suck your dads cock and he'll do wonders

Never gonna happen. It'd just kill the amount of sales on the iPhone.

Yeah the iPhone is well known for its fantastic camera abilities

Exactly, you don't buy an iPhone for its camera, you buy it because, you know, it's a phone.

still, you cant deny that it would lose one attraction, therefore, losing buyers (not nessesarely a large amount)
From the board and the manufacturing of the 3rd gen we can see if Apple did decide to put a camera in it would be something like the nano has, nothing good as the iPhone's.
To be honest I can't see the camera being the deciding factor for someone between the iPhone and iPod Touch.
If anything I would rather prefer GPS capabilities before a camera. And if they do put a camera on the new iPod touch it should at least qualify in the same range of the iPhone's. Remember, this is the iPhone's bastard child, not the Nano's, it would only make perfect sense to include every other feature but phone capabilities.

GPS would be awesome.
I wouldn't hold out much hope for an iPhone style camera if the internal design of the 4th gen follows that of the 3rd: http://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/iPod-touch-3rd-Generation/1158/2

Yeah but think about the amount of people that'd buy an iPod touch for the camera if they implemented it. The benefits outweigh the drawbacks.
Goddammit I killed my iPod again.

How?
Nobody buys a fucking iPhone for the camera. The addition of a camera to the iPod touch in no fucking way would harm iPhone sales. They don't call it the fucking iCamera for a reason.
The iPod touch is pretty much a demo version of the iPhone. It makes a difference.
Apparently not for my sister; she bought a fucking blackberry and all she can do is BeeBeeEmm and Facebook because data costs too much. Christ she should get a Kin or something.

He makes a point.
The camera wouldn't hurt iPhone sales, at least not that much.
Why would it matter, for apple anyways? They are both apple products. They would get the same amount of profit, if not more. Correct me if I'm wrong.
The iPhone is more important to them than the iPod touch. In the music market, there isn't really anything that remotely threatens the iPod touch except for, well, the iPod Classic and Nano. With the iPhone, some competitors are starting to gain popularity like Android, and Apple needs to get as many people as possible to buy the iPhone. Making the iPod touch a better choice just ruins sales for the iPhone enough for it to matter.
This is what someone thought the iPod 6th Generation would look like.

Ok, that makes sense.
I had the thought of an apple phone back in '05, so basically they stole my idea.
Bastards.
Yeah I'm gonna wait for the next one. I lost it somewhere at a friends house (or it was stolen) Doesn't matter though.
A new one will be soon I think.
