Today marks an important milestone for Microsoft, as its second gaming console, the Xbox 360, turns ten years old. The current successor, the Xbox One, also launched exactly two years ago as of today. The gaming industry has massively changed over this ten-year period, with technology becoming a core part of our lives, and shaping around society. We take a brief look at the console's launch, and the events that made the device unique.
The console itself wasn't bad at all.
I hated having to pay for multiplayer though, which is the sole reason I detest the PS4 with every fiber of my being.
God damn, this console owned.

a sequel would be nice but if they did one of those anniversary things of rdr id shit bricks
Holy cow, two years for the Xbox One. It feels like it just came out a couple months ago.
As it there hasn't been anything on it that has made me feel like there really is a new generation out.
Xbox 360 in 2007 was an awesome time in my life. Playing Halo 3 and Modern Warfare with friends every day after school, staying up super late playing videogames with my brother, trying to beat 5 day survival on Dead Rising 1 (never finished it; forgot to feed frank and lost 2-3 days of survival, so I decided fuck it and gave up). Forge maps, Infection, Hammerzeit. Split screen gaming offers a level of socializing that I've never found in online gaming. To this day, I get bored pretty quickly playing games online with other people because it's not very fun.

My Xbox 360 RR'd once. Still works today, after they fixed it. However, it has a noticeably poor framerate in newer games compared to Xbox 360 elites. I remember paying like $80 for a wireless adapter for my 360. Then it just came builtin for the elite (as wifi is an expected part of virtually any device we have today)

i think dying light was the first game i played that felt truly next gen on the xboner
also dead rising 1 was the shit

to be fair, if you look at some of the very early xbox 360 games theres not a huge distinction between them and the more advanced games on the xbox
i don't appreciate how beautiful games can be on xbone/ps4 until i go back to my older gen consoles, even games like Destiny have a pretty damn significant difference
for a lot of games the biggest distinction other than graphical quality and loading time differences is 30 fps vs 60fps, it feels so good to finally have 60fps
i think if someone asked what game on the 360 could pass as next gen itd be max payne 3. like it looks insanely good and you could tell they pushed it to the very limit

oh boy oh boy i cant wait to play SO MANY VIDEO GAMES
also it's insane how well reviewed red dead was, like i dont even remember it being that high: http://www.metacritic.com/game/xbox-360/red-dead-redemption
Christ doesn't feel so long ago that I got one when it first came out. It was an amazing console for its time. And despite its kinks I think it held up fairly well for its time as well.
Honestly, I wouldn't mind another ten years with this current generation, especially considering how much consoles have cost lately.
How long until it goes away? Not until the XbOne does.
I still think the first dashboard was the best one, in terms of colors, easy access, and it looks really arcadish

Just dusted out my old 360. It's still working but the disc tray won't come out unless you lightly hit the top of the console.
I should try to buy some games for it.

You can definitely tell it was a product of its time in regards to UI design. But it was a huge leap from what any console had until the PS3/Wii came the next year.
I also remember it was the first time I had ever seen high definition. Everything look so clean and crisp. Most people still only had CRT TVs at that point and I used one on my 360 well into 2009.
Heh, I bought my 360 on day one, the most basic model you could get, and it continued to work until about a month ago when the green lights finally turned into 3/4 of a red circle of death. Rest in peace you beautiful bastard. I'm amazed an original model 360 could last that long without a single hitch.
Ten years of my life... Holy crap. I remember waiting in line with my brother on Halo 3's launch. Finding out about youtube and machinimas on a laptop. so many weird memories with the xbox 360. I remember xbox 360 scratching my disk for sonic 06 when i got it in 2008. God a lot has changed since 2005.

That's pretty impressive, since most people's had RRoD'd at least once within a couple years of the original models.
Mine was the original Arcade model with HDMI when that was introduced. It RRoD'd after one and half years. Replacement has been fine after 6 though.
Personally, I like the design of the Arcade model better anyway, as it doesn't have that gaudy chrome CD tray that the premium versions had.
The 360 was the biggest pile of shit for a game console I had ever seen. I think my brothers had the RROD 2 times and mine like 5 times. I finally just went out and bought a arcade version as a replacement.
That said I sank a lot of hours of my life into Halo 3/Reach
I think I remember the reveal on G4 way back in the day.
my xbox 360 doesn't even have an hdmi port...

man, that menu feels like ancient history to me
I feel old now
Played alot of Halo 3 on the 360 good times..
My original (with the chrome front, too!) is still kicking. Crazy shit.

You gotta realize that it would need a major overhaul either way to support the trillion apps that came later. Can't really slap Netflix anywhere on there without taking up tons of space or going to a separate menu entirely, which isn't fun.
I'm surprised my 360 never shorted out from a Red Ring, I've played Fallout 3 and KOTOR 2 on that thing until the CDs became unplayable.
