US executions on hold due to lethal injection drug shortage
A series of executions in the US have been put on hold because of a shortage of one of the drugs used in lethal injections.
The lethal injection method is used by 35 states and several of those do not have enough sodium thiopental, an anaesthetic which is used to render condemned prisoners unconscious shortly before their death.
Steve Beshear, the Kentucky governor, has had to postpone signing two death warrants, for killers Ralph Baze and Robert Foley, whose appeals are exhausted.
Oklahoma delayed carrying out a death sentence last month and Arizona is looking for some of the drug ahead of an execution in a month's time.
In all there are 17 executions scheduled in nine states before the end of January which require the drug.
Inmates sentenced to death are injected intravenously with three drugs.
First they are put to sleep with sodium thiopental, pancuronium bromide then paralyzes their muscles and stops their breathing, and finally, potassium chloride stops the heart.
Two US states, Ohio and Washington, have carried out executions by injecting sodium thiopental at very high doses.
The anaesthetic is only produced by one pharmaceutical company, Hospira, which is based in Illinois.
It has blamed the shortage on issues with the supplier of its raw materials, and said new batches of sodium thiopental will not be available until January at the earliest.
A spokesman said: "We are working to get it back onto the market for our customers as soon as possible." Using alternative drugs is not possible for many states because their execution methods were only established and clearly set out after lengthy court proceedings.

Even reading this it sounds like a horrible way to die.
Honestly, I would hate death by lethal injection. Just doesn't feel right. Especially since some lethal injections can be...painful.
They aren't painful. It's a fairly humane way to die. That's not to say I agree with capitol punishment. I do not.

I'm pretty sure some lethal injections (on accident) simply paralyze the subject, and they feel all the pain, but can't scream.

I'm for the death sentence. But if I was on it, I'd want to be pushed off a cliff or something, not have needles stuck in me.
1. The death sentence is fucking stupid.
2. The only humane way to die is atomization while you're asleep.
I just think its a horrible way.
Strapped to a bed whilst you watch a needle deliver the dose, tied down.
I personally disagree completely with the death sentence unless the case is extremely bad.
murderers, child abusers (rape and disgusting things like that), kidnappers?
If there was anyway to go I would shoose beheading as its quick 'n' clean.
I think I would rather have the firing squad or the electric chair. The chair is usually a pretty quick way to go when its done properly
I wonder if their victims got to chose a pain free death.

Someone who tortured their victims should deserve a humiliating death such as the lethal injection. But if they made it quick or something similar, a firing squad. It feels stupid saying that, but the crime should fit the punishment.

Please deserve killing yourself from stupidity.

Not really, you could still feel the pain there is a chance that your brain will remain conscious for a short while after you're beheaded.
Also, pure oxygen free nitrogen, iz the way to go bitches. You never ever run out of the stuff either.

Both involve pain and have a higher chance for suffering.
if i ever get death penalty i will opt for the guillotine or a beheading with a giant axe
Please deserve killing yourself from stupidity.
Please fuck off for not letting me have an opinion.
should be on hold permanently.
Please fuck off for not letting me have an opinion.
No, you can't have an opinion that involves the death of other humans.
And revenge does not factor into the legal system in sane countries.
I would want to go by firing line/squad. I'd be dead after anyway...

Are you sure? Because I'm pretty sure that's what the family's see the death penalty as when some 50 year old creep rapes and murders their daughter.

the familiy's emotions are not the justice system. saying "killing people is justice" is an oxymoron.
Those families need a bitchsmacking from the very large and painful stick of reason.
just give them one puff of marijuana:downs:
the familiy's emotions are not the justice system. saying "killing people is justice" is an oxymoron.
It isn't justice, it's seen as justice.
wah wah wah it's not wrong to justly kill people who savagely and unjustly killed other people
Which is generally why we have a legal system in the first place. To find actualy justice and not just what some people "feel" is justice.

Yes you can.
Ever heard of "self defense"?
If there's gonna be a death penalty, may as well go all out instead of this "humane" nonsense. I bet a nice 5.56x45mm cartridge is cheaper than a syringe full of sodium thiopental anyways.

What people "feel" justice is, is, in the end, justice.
The only reason that jail is a punishment is because other people feel it is the proper punishment. In the end, the punishments for breaking the law are man-made, so they are subjective to ones thinking. There isn't a universal concept of what "justice" is, because the concept itself is subjective. Therefore, you are allowed, and should in fact, debate it.
eye for an eye with some modifications - best policy for justice
