The man behind the private space project dubbed Mars One is looking for people to travel to Mars, but he's not offering a return ticket.
"The technology to get humans to Mars and keep them alive there exists," Bas Lansdorp told Day 6 host Brent Bambury in an interview that aired this week on CBC Radio.
"The technology to bring humans from Mars back to Earth simply does not exist yet."
Where can I sign up?
Lansdorp said he's looking for people who are utterly dependable, good in groups
Oh nevermind
This is gonna be hard..who knows who might snap after a few months.

If thing's go bad, expect to see a million movies all based on it.
Why can't they just pay a bunch of homeless people $60 to live there?
If someone played videogames, they sure as hell had better like singleplayer, because the minimum ping you would have would be over 480000 ms.
I'm not sure if they would even have a constant connection at all though, because I would imagine power would be in short supply.
Is this like the 3rd time this has been posted in the last 6 months?

Naw, they could just start the coolest(and longest) lan party to ever grace humanity.

space hookers
Shit this sounds like a rather fun experience. Sure I'd eat my words when the heat of the sun whips my body, not to mention the muscle deterioration that happens if precautions aren't taken, but it'd be cool to spend a couple of years there. I'm just curious how they'd do farming and livestock growth there to keep people fed.

Or the longest DnD session ever known to mankind.
My curiosity is what happens when certain people fall ill? Are they going to be able to be treated in some way? I'm assuming the search would consist of at least one doctor or something?

You have become infected, you will now be ejected from the biosphere to ensure the survival of others.
Have a nice day.
I dont beleive that they are going to die there. Someone who is say 18 or 20 and goes there in like 20-30 or maybe even less years we will be able to bring them back.

what about space fuel? need some of that if you're planning to go to mars.
Wasn't it proven that this is just a bunch of bullshit?

I don't think so, but I don't think anybody will actually go through with it. And even if they do, they'll have lived on Mars for around 3 days thinking 'I've made a terrible mistake.'
I'd love to if the internet connection wasn't so terrible.

I really don't think it means "hey random people sign up and you might get in!"
Anybody who is sent to mars is going to specialize in something useful for the group and expedition, and no doubt they're going to spend the rest of their lives on the planet collecting data/whatever. They aren't going to just be sitting around waiting to die.

What data can a human collect that a rover can't and hasn't already?

Honestly, this could also go very well. Considering that you'll probably live another 30-40 years on Mars (given they have some form of health care up there), there will be a good chance that technological advances in that time period will allow for a return trip one day, or at least to expand the Mars colony.
What data can a human collect that a rover can't and hasn't already?
The amount of ground a person could cover in a day would be significantly larger than that of a rover. A group of people would be able to cover more and do more, not to mention the most important part which would be how humans cope with living on mars.
