More than 200 people were arrested as violence flared in otherwise peaceful gatherings. Citing “evidence of rioting or intent to riot”, the sweeping requests ask Facebook to disclose all personal information of the organizers, including their passwords and physical addresses, as well as all activity associated with their accounts, any photos or videos they uploaded or any messages they sent. One of the targeted activists said in a filing that the government would have access to information about her long history of unrelated political activity, including posts identifying others who participated in various marches and sit-ins.
This is an update to that time the DoJ wanted to unmask every person who visited an anti-Trump website and collect their private info a few months ago (they were successful btw, hope you didn't visit that website!). Now they're targeting individuals. Welcome to the Great American internet!
He's not long for his office, fortunately. Mueller will see to that. Sic Semper Tyrannis.
"Anti-administration activities" sounds like something straight out of 1984. Ironic, too, given that when you think about it, the Russians used Facebook for pro-administration activities.
A free country indeed. This is fucked up. You could say it's... :bullshit:
At this point I expect to see internet get nationalised by current government.
Can this be brought to a higher court? Its a blatant violation of the 4th amendment
Just like rome, america is doomed to fall.

Knowing the current adminstration, that could be well, anything. Still incredibly retarded though that these guys are going after something based on the president's fragile ego and not putting it anywhere else useful. America is already incompetent enough as it is. Fuck the people going through with his demands because of "loyalty". Fuck their perverted sense of loyalty. I love this country, not the assholes running it, and they should feel the same and say "hey this is fucked up yo".
A free country indeed. This is fucked up. You could say it's... :bullshit:
More like China-style in this case. There are lots of people very excited to implement their mass surveillance, facial ID tracking and massive violations of privacy over the next few years.
From what I'm reading in your links, they succeeded in only targeting people who did illegal stuff on the site. Knowing the current adminstration, that could be well, anything.
Their narrative is spinning the inauguration protests (and, by extension, any public anti-Trump demonstration) as intent to incite a riot. It's popular among the right to portray liberal protests as starting violence and destroying property, culminating in the "many sides" thing in Charlottesville, and this is furthering that. I wouldn't doubt that there's a motive of trying to intimidate protestors, even if the warrant isn't successful.
whoa. "Anti administration activists". This phrase is thrown around A LOT but that's some weird fascist shit
Just like rome, america is doomed to fall.
Honestly, it can't get here fast enough. [sp]and no I'm not seriously wishing for the downfall of America. I just hate what this country is becoming under Trump[/sp]
First amendment rights violations, people should make more noise about this.
First amendment rights violations, people should make more noise about this.
I predict in the next 24 hours Trump is gonna tweet something unflattering about a disabled journalist or smth as a smokescreen.

I can only imagine this is going to be fought to hell and back by Facebook and possibly other tech companies. The precedent it could set could ruin them, not to mention the PR.

Only reason they'd oppose this is to save face: they have repeatedly shown in the past that they don't mind spying on its users, and sharing information about it. Now it's just public, so to avoid outrage, they'll play along.
Just like rome, america is doomed to fall.
I mean, just like literally every nation. There aren't really that many intellectually viable comparisons between Rome and the USA. If any fall comes to America it'll be like the British Empire, just a bit of stagnation and then a loss of major power, but I really doubt that'll ever happen either. Short of straight breaking up, which most likely will never happen, America will always be a major player.
Trump fucks a non-white baby to turn away criticisms of breaking 4th amendment rights.
Already done, what with trying to repeal DACA
I mean sure, they probably thought that, but they also had countless fatal flaws in their respective societies that were going to do them in eventually. Other than stagnation (which happens to everyone eventually), I don't see any massive disasters in our future comparable to what happened to those three.
I picture a more British Empire scenario, where we slowly lose global influence and power. Which is already happening, as we end deals with & piss off all of our allies and territories.
I honestly hope, in the future, that the only vacation Trump will be spending government money on is a personal waterboarding trip in Guantanamo Bay

That happens in most of the Western world though. It's easy to find flaws in hindsight, not so much when it's ongoing.
I honestly hope, in the future, that the only vacation Trump will be spending government money on is a personal waterboarding trip in Guantanamo Bay
I know he's human waste, but we can do without the sadism tyvm.

I mean there's something already catastrophically wrong for Trump to get into office...
