Del Toro and Kojima were poised to collaborate on Silent Hills, a psychological horror game that was to star Norman Reedus (The Walking Dead). But Kojima’s ouster from game publisher Konami put the kibosh on that. Now, with an independent studio and a deal with Sony to make a PlayStation 4 game, Kojima has more leeway to pair up with other creators and work on passion projects. “I feel extremely free right now,” Kojima said. “I have no intentions of ever changing anything I do in order to sell more [copies].”
Sucks that it'll be a PS4 exclusive though.
Whatever they choose to collaborate on in the future I'm sure it's going to be great, but I'm not sure if I'm ever going to get over the loss of "Silent Hills". I'm always going to be thinking "What if?" to myself.
It's so amazing to see two such talented people, whom I both have a lot of respect for, be such good friends and work together on something great.
I can literally feel the power

I wonder how they communicate with each other when it's just the two of them. Maybe del Toro knows a little Japanese and Kojima knows a little English? (or Spanish)
Kojima speaks English iirc, he just prefers to use Japanese.
Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark Game when? Maybe a mecha game?
Man I almost forgot THQ went bankrupt.
Someday someone is going to finally be able to explain how konami so deliberately self imploded Anyway I hope this works out this time
Someday someone is going to finally be able to explain how konami so deliberately self imploded Anyway I hope this works out this time
We already know why, it's just a clusterfuck of things not entirely confirmed. They wanted to forego costly development of triple-A games and just profit off of mobile gaming and pachinko, so they basically axed everything and what remained was under stern, passive-aggressive Orwellian bullshit to keep a tight leash and/or pressure people into quitting rather than waiting to get laid off. Kojima was, seemingly, a victim of this alongside his studio because his costly perfectionism for MGSV combined with spending so much time making an engine without a lot of in-depth work on the game at that point angered management and the CEO supposedly. Of course the last laugh is by Kojima since he got to remake his studio under Sony with far less bullshit, who are much more willing to see through artistic games right now even if it means exclusives. And the mobile and pachinko industries are becoming less desirable in Japan by the month to the point that SNK Playmore has gone out of their way to completely abandon the pachinko market and return to gaming.
This is seriously fucking music to my ears. Kojima and Del Toro actually working together again. Pinch me I think I'm dreaming. I'm not? Well catch me cause I'm about to faint.
Slightly on-topic but Del Toro plays Pappy McPoyle in It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia
I'm still amazed and immensely happy that Kojima's story ended so fucking well after he was booted from Konami Like I imagined that maybe Kojima would lose the spark to push forward through a mess of having Silent Hills get totally canned, but now del Toro and Kojima are doing keynotes together and already have a project in the works
Someday someone is going to finally be able to explain how konami so deliberately self imploded Anyway I hope this works out this time
Executives. "Videogames take a long time to make and cost a lot of money, we get good money back but it can be risky sometimes. Gambling machines are cheap and fast to make and produce loads of money, why aren't we focusing on these instead?"
Just a reminder that only Kojipro's first project is a team up with Sony, they are in fact an independent studio.
Just a reminder that only Kojipro's first project is a team up with Sony, they are in fact an independent studio.
yep kojima has FULL CREATIVE CONTROL and a AAA Budget from sony
