The new terms came into force on September 2nd and now he has written an open letter of protest, writes Nettavisen.
"Unless 02:09:15-escalation is reverted I will eventually continue the hunger strike until death. I can not take more, "writes the newspaper.
The terrorist also threatens to notify the Norwegian Justice Minister Anders Anundsen.
For the benefit of those of us who speak neither Swedish nor Norwegian, here is the BBC article: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-34401166
Key excerpts:
Breivik claims to have been kept in isolation since 2 September, with time outside his cell limited to an hour a day.
[...]
His claims about deteriorating prison conditions were made in a letter to media outlets in Norway and Sweden.
[...]
In his letter, Breivik, 36, says harsh prison conditions have forced him to drop out of a political science course at the University of Oslo.
"Studying and corresponding is not humanly possible under such circumstances, and this applies to anyone who is isolated under such conditions," he wrote according to English news site The Local.
Breivik said that if conditions remained unchanged he would continue the hunger strike until he died, Norwegian media reported.
Reading the article, sure it's sounds like isolation is terrible, but it's pretty hard to feel any sympathy for Breivik. I don't see why he shouldn't be allowed to have supervised visits or anything like that.
But if he goes on a hunger strike he should just be force fed.

No doubt he's a horrible person, but he's still a person and unless he's being an active threat to others in the facility I don't think isolation should be imposed. He has previously complained about other things as well.

Isolation is imposed (iirc) not because he would be dangerous to other inmates, but because they would be a danger to him (I mean he killed like 50 kids).
I don't think he should be in isolation, but who wants to spend the money to make a new place just to host this guy.
Did he ever get his PS3?
Being alone makes studying hard? His coffee is cold? I'd say that's a low price to pay for murdering dozens of people. He even gets to attend university (which I believe entitles you to a living wage in Norway)
I'm sure if Norwegian accommodations aren't up to his majesty's standards I think there's a free room in Florence.
Who gives a fuck. How can anyone sympathize with this sick piece of shit?
Put this bastard in Huntsville state prison here in Texas and see how he likes that.
For 90 minutes a day, they are transported to a large cage for exercise. During this time, the cell is searched for contraband or illegal items that inmates are not permitted to have.
Sounds good to me.
Who gives a fuck. How can anyone sympathize with this sick piece of shit?
Sympathy is irrelevant. If a prisoner is being mistreated then the prisoner is being mistreated, although we don't know if that's the truth yet.
If I understand this correctly, why not comply with his wishes and give him access to mingle. He'll soon learn what's best for him.
Hes purposely just taking advantage of it all. Hes only doing it because he knows he can, and he knows he can as even though he massacred people. Hes not in distress, he just knows he can essentially make them listen to him.
His "cell" is about as nice as a god damn college dorm room.

So? The point of locking him up is so that he's not a threat to other people, not to torture him.

he's not being mistreated, he murdered a 70 innocent people and is getting locked up for it
So? The point of locking him up is so that he's not a threat to other people, not to torture him.
More for his own protection, I would say.
he's not being mistreated, he murdered a 70 innocent people and is getting locked up for it
Not being mistreated isn't for us to decide. If a prisoner makes a claim of being mistreated then the government should look into it. Him killing 70 people is irrelevant
Him killing 70 people is irrelevant
No it isn't. Punishment should fit the crime.

[editline]god damn you paul simon[/editline]
Either that or it was a gay bar, but that would have just been silly.
he's not being mistreated, he murdered a 70 innocent people and is getting locked up for it
They're looking into whether or not he's being mistreated.

His punishment does fit his crime. He'll never be a threat to anyone again. Putting him in solitary for months at a time, if true, is vindictive and something that shouldn't be done on a prisoner regardless of their crime. The law does not exist to sate revenge

No it doesn't, IIRC, Norway's max sentence is 20 years. He'll be a threat again once he gets out. If he killed 70 people he needs at least life without parole. Not 20 years. Bank robbers in the US get 20 years. His sentence is a bullshit slap in the face for those affected.
Isn't incarceration meant to be rehabilitation and not punishment nowadays?
No it doesn't, IIRC, Norway's max sentence is 20 years. He'll be a threat again once he gets out.
Him being a threat again is entirely dependent on the treatment he gets in prison. Furthermore when he is eventually released the Norwegian government sure as hell is going to keep an eye on him.
Furthermore if he is being put in solitary for months at a time thats a great way of making him continue to be a threat past his incarceration

Congrats you just described whats wrong with the American legal system.
Isn't incarceration meant to be rehabilitation and not punishment nowadays?
What are they doing to assist him with rehabilitation though? (Genuine question, I don't know and would like to.) If they're just letting him sit in solitary for however many years and them letting him out, how is that rehabilitation at all?

He was sentenced to a form of preventive detention that can be extended indefinitely if he is deemed to still be a threat to society.
In any case, by what metric do you determine what kind of punishment someone gets?

how stupid do you think Norway is? they have a max sentence of 22 years that can they renew as many times as they want. it's a matter of wording.
