BARNEGAT — Despite searing heat from a car fire sending flames at least 15 feet high, a Barnegat police officer threw open a BMW’s rear door and successfully pulled out an incapacitated man from the passenger’s seat last night, an episode captured on her cruiser’s mobile video recorder. Officer Lauren Keilitz, an 8-year veteran, is seen running to the blazing BMW, which is parked in a Biscayne Road driveway and then heard yelling, “Get out of the car!” several times. The car’s occupant, later identified as Mario Dischiavi, 57, was apparently too incapacitated to respond, a department spokesman, Lt. Keith Germain, said. Keilitz, though, is seen reaching into the vehicle and dragging him — and herself — away from the intense heat and flames, Germain said. Good person.
Finally, a story about a cop who isn't an ass...
She put her life on the line to save another, I hope the guy is hugely grateful when he finds out. Get the feeling they both will have some rather nasty burns though from this.
Oh hey the dash cam has GPS http://maps.google.com/maps?q=39.760672n+074.193385w Its nice to see at least one good cop story in the sea of bad cop stories
Going above and beyond the call.....I salute this woman. All cops should aspire to be this badass. It isn't about what you can do for yourself, its about what you can do for your people. Edit: Sorry, sort of skimmed over the article. Still a very heroic act regardless.
I salute this man.
The officer is a woman.
JUST BAD APP- wait waht But in all seriousness, fucking awesome. She needs a medal.
The officer is a woman.
Even better.
It's just a good apple, guys. [editline]2nd February 2012[/editline] But seriously, we should be seeing a lot more news like this.
It's just a good apple, guys. [editline]2nd February 2012[/editline] But seriously, we should be seeing a lot more news like this.
Unfortunately people doing their job properly everyday does not make for interesting news.
God bless the United States of America.
Unfortunately people doing their job properly everyday does not make for interesting news.
This isn't even really her job. This is above and beyond, which is the only reason it made the news. Cops generally aren't supposed to deal with fire in the same way they aren't supposed to offer medical care. In many states they aren't even supposed to offer mechanical help with a disabled motor vehicle, even if the fix is simple. In this situation it was unique because the chance of the officer making the situation worse (as with botched medical or mechanical care) or winding up incapacitated herself (as is the case with rushing into a burning building without proper gear) were both very low. So above and beyond the call of duty, not just her job.

Still does not change the fact cops doing a good quality job and helping the community does not make the news. Same can be said about firefighters, EMS, and other civil servants. Only time news gets around if it is generally negative or like this topic "above and beyond"
Scary thinking that car could of blown up at any moment.
Man, that's a big fire. That guy who was pulled out is probably going to be all kinds of messed up.
One of my friends (who is an officer) pulled a man from a burning vehicle once. He said " I was just doing my job " to all the media
Man i saw this on the news in the morning, I think he only suffered smoke inhalation.
Then the cop is arrested for not being a shitty cop [SUB]/joke [/SUB]
yeah of course, "just a few bad apples" [editline]2nd February 2012[/editline] wait, what
