CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) -- Imagine you're playing a video game with your child when you realize the game is taunting one of the characters who's adopted. Not a big deal, right? Now imagine your child is adopted. What do you say? How do you handle it? It happened to one local father and his 10 year old adopted daughter. Now he and his wife say playing the game, billed as educational and appropriate for anyone older than 10, has forced them to have the most important conversation an adoptive parent will ever have: talking about the birth parents.
http://www.wbtv.com/story/14662694/tonight-at-5-video-game-taunts-adopted-children damnit wheatley
What kind of fuck nut wrote this crock of shit?
What kind of fuck nut wrote this crock of shit?
People at my local news station.
I think I speak for everybody when I say that this is fucking stupid.
But GLaDOS implies that there's really nothing wrong with being adopted later in the game
hoo boy i cant wait to get real caremad about this editorial from some place i've never been which, if not for the intervention of indignant gamers (like me) would not have been read by more than one hundred people what the fuck is wrong with society i've lost all faith in humanity mumble mumble jack thompson
billed as educational and appropriate for anyone older than 10
Where the hell do they get "educational" from? EDIT: Nevermind, I misinterpreted them thinking that it was billed as educational from the rating E10 because they said right after "for anyone older than 10." I need some sleep.
Where the hell do they get "educational" from?
Because it doesn't feature none of that violence that makes kids cold blooded killers.
Oh, oh wow. Also I'm gonna quote the first comment from the article:
this is why it is so hard for parents these days to keep their kids safe. you just never know where something horrid will rear its ugly head. obviously the creator(s) of this game have issues much deeper and should be sent to a deep counseling before they are allowed to be part of the public again. there is NOTHING wrong with being adopted and no i am not adopted but how loving can people be to bring a child into their home when that child isn't a blood relative merely because they have love to give and CHOOSE to share with a child that desperately needs love.
$10 typical over-reactive soccer mum. Edit: it's been removed, wonder why Plus, it's saying that to the game character, not the bloody gamer themselves. [editline]18th May 2011[/editline]
Where the hell do they get "educational" from?
Just so happens to involve physics puzzles, instant "educational material".
Where the hell do they get "educational" from?
I guess it helps with puzzle solving and teaches them things like how awesome science is and how potatoes contain 1.1 volts
But GLaDOS implies that there's really nothing wrong with being adopted later in the game
They wouldn't of gotten that far in the game to hear that, taking in their extreme frustration.
If it aint soccor moms, its unitoothed conservatives with their trademark "ITS AN OOOUUUTRAAAGE!" This TERRORIST TRAINING SIMULATOR should be BANNED from the United States OF AMERICA!"
Who here on FP is adopted and finds this offensive? Note: You must have watched the infuriating video on the source site first to see why they are attacking Portal 2.
Not really sure how I feel about this :v: I mean, it would definitely be pretty hard for an adopted kid to hear if they're just 10 years old, but of course Valve didn't mean any harm, and the jokes weren't even that harsh in the first place. Plus the jokes were directed at stupid old orphans, not adopted kids. I dunno, I'd probably just say deal with it and talk to your kids about adoption rather than throwing a fit over a video game's mild gestures. [editline]18th May 2011[/editline] Oh for fuck sake "Alright, fatty. Fatty fatty.. No parents." DID YOU HEAR THAT? THE KIDS GAME CHARACTER IS MAKING FUN OF ADOPTED CHILDREN "I didn't know what to do I STILL DONT KNOW WHAT TO DO" Tell your adopted Korean daughter that she's adopted and the game was just making fun of the fucking character. Oh and "She says she didn't hear it" apparently means SHES NOT EMOTIONALLY READY TO TALK ABOUT THE EXTREMELY TRAUMATIZING COMMENTS MADE BY THE VIDEO GAME CHARACTER. [editline]18th May 2011[/editline] Ahahaha "We contacted Sony, who distributes the game" [editline]18th May 2011[/editline] Ahahaha "We contacted Sony, who distributes the game"
The parents appear to be oblivious to the earlier part with GLaDOS' fake phone call quoting "The birth parents you have tried to reach do not love you" and instead quote Wheatley's pathetic attempt at an insult. That's amazing, really.
Next thing they're going to say that the kid was slightly overweight and super conscious about his weight, and the weight comments put him in a deep depression because he really thought they were about him.
But GLaDOS implies that there's really nothing wrong with being adopted later in the game
Actually in that same line she whispers "For the record you're adopted and that's terrible but bear with me for a moment." That" :v:
I knew it we must get this banned and Valve fined immediately
It's offensive to farmers because Cave Johnson doesn't want Lemons.
This is fucking hilarious Because of the situation but if you listen when Wheatley goes "You're adopted fatty, fatty fatty adopted fatty" They mute it slightly but still clear as day you can hear Glados "And? What's wrong with being adopted?" before it cuts out.
also, i'm pretty sure the little girl knew she wasn't from those parents, she asian, they are white...
I doubt younger people really understand that concept
Wow, the villain is doing something dickish? What a travesty
Pretty sure he's joking.
I don't know man, I live all around Mormons. They talk exactly like that... :(
I don't know man, I live all around Mormons. They talk exactly like that... :(
Mormons are fucking jokes dude, I swear to god every single one I've ever known closely is terribly idiotic and naive
Oh my god, the video is so rage-inducing, it literally takes EVERYTHING out of context, and even conveniently shows some random clip that cuts off to make it seem so much worse. Oh my god. Einstein was so right: "Two Things Are Infinite: the Universe and Human Stupidity"
Wow wherever you live must be terribly depressing, I mean check out the other stories- "Teen dies during football practice in Burke county" "Boy, 12, dies after accidentally hanging himself on wire" "Twin teens killed in storm were set to graduate in weeks" "Toddler sexually assaulted at Charlotte Church, report says" :smith:

This makes me laugh. They cut out the part where Wheatley says some of his best friends are orphans. To be honest, I'm surprised the game got an E10+ rating. I mean, Cave Johnson cracks the "D-whip" so many times in casual conversation. Also, the way that characters try and kill you, is that normally in E10+ games?
Am I missing the part where this was billed as educational? I don't remember seeing that in any of it's advertising. Also, "She didn't hear it, so obviously she isn't ready to talk about it" Well shit, maybe she just didn't hear it over the sound of your jaw breaking through the floor?
