Could barely play the game past lvl 200 without getting bored. No idea how someone can play 1700 hours
17 hours a day for 6 months maining roadhog. The thought of that makes me sick.

I don't think it's so much the amount of hours but how fast he got them. Game's only been out for ~4536 hours and he's put 1700 into it.
I've got about 1700 in Fallout:NV...
That game is 6 years old, it's not out of the ordinary to accumulate so many hours through multiple (and different) play throughs.
Atleast in Gmod you have different servers with different mods to play on, OW is just so... repetitive.
People who play games competitively usually enjoy the competition more than the medium, if that makes sense. Also, games like this are about being creative within your tool kits. There's a lot of variety in any multiplayer game on the micro level, so when you really understand and excel at a game, you can always be improving. Countering the other *player*, as in the human, is a mindgame that's fun in any right.
I wonder if he has all of the gold skins at that point because I kinda stopped playing this game and still got goldens for roadhog and junkrat.
the gold skins are so ugly for me and I have no idea why they're so desired

Similar to CS:GO for some people.
This dude must constantly be hearing Overwatch sounds and voicelines even when he's not playing.
