The fire was reported about 9:15 p.m. and about 11:30 p.m. firefighters pulled down the picturesque facade of the store. Later, the front sign of the store was salvaged from the wreckage and stored in a nearby barn. The fire that began inside the iconic building was too much for the old, mostly-wooden structure, however. It burned throughout a nearly five-hour firefight in near-sub-zero temperatures and was destroyed.
Pictures are obviously from before the fire.
Rest in piece Rabbit Hash General Store.
Also there's a gofundme for the store, not sure if this is allowed but I'm posting it here anyway.

That sucks. I heard about this place before but I've never been there.
I'm just happy the gofundme is moving along at an amazing speed. Nearly 31k in only 13 hours.
If they had insurance than they don't need a gofundme page. I smell a scam.

If you would of known the owners and the community around the store, you wouldn't think it's a scam. Why would the owner burn down history for money?
To me, this is just an unfortunate mistake.
Also, the interior is more or less the same as it was when it was built, I doubt insurance companies would insure a building with an open fire.
185 fucking years. That's disgustingly shameful. What a loss.
I hope they're able to recover and reuse as much of the surviving lumber as possible to rebuild the store.
Shame. At least it wasn't the Mill Springs Mill though. If that burns down then so does my childhood.

since when has something being historic ever stopped people from destroying it?

I don't know that I'd call it a scam, but what bothers me is that this building was historical right? So when it burns down and you rebuild it, you have a new, non historical building. You can make the outside look old, but it'll be new framing/electrical/drywall/insulation/etc. Even if they rebuilt it out of wood only with no modern amenities, it's still not the historical wood building.
So in a way it's misleading to ask for a Gofundme to rebuild this without admitting upfront history has nothing to do with it, they just want a new building.

I think its a bit one-dimensional to simply say they are looking for a new building. I can see where you form that logic but I feel it misses something fundamental.
Its true that the original building, the original materials and labor is all part of history but its only one part. Its us that define everything else. The people who came and went to this store, the owners it had previous to these ones, the transactions had, the conversations contained inside, the hardships endured. We are the ones who give value to these abstract concepts such as history and any significance given.
Yes, the original building is gone, the material history in a sense is lost, but we can rebuild and repair lost things. The history it had and any impact this store had on people's lives is not lost. To me, being burnt down while sad is just another part of its history, shouldn't a rebirth be part of it too? All of the material that went into this building; new and old is equally part of this world. it would be foolish to just let that land lay there empty.
I won't even entertain the people saying its a form of insurance fraud. It might very well be, but it also might very well have been a tragic accident. Who am I to judge people I don't know off of limited info?

The gofundme page is a scam. Not saying they burned it down just that they're insurance will pay for it so the gofundme is free money.

Hmm, that is a good point that insurance would cover things. Though I personally am just refraining from forming an opinion on it either way, (not that it really matters).
I'm not even going to argue on whether the GoFundMe is a scam at this point.
Here's a few of my own photos of Rabbit Hash (the town the general store is in.)

During the flood last year.
"Rabbit Hash General Store"?
Funny name for a store, and seemed like a fun place too! For a general store in what appears to be middle of nowhere.
fucking immigrants
sounds more like the normal risks of a 185 year old building probably not being up to the most modern fire code.
