The best horror/survival horror games are generally the foreign ones. The old Silent Hills, the old Resident Evils. Even Penumbra/Amnesia are Swedish or something. American horror sucks if it's not gory. Hell, even a lot of American horror movies are remakes of foreign ones.
Oh right, outsourcing's working so fine for everyone lately.
.. Then again, the DMC and Resident Evil 6 PC ports both seem to be pretty damn good, so maybe Capcom or their outsource devs at least knows who to outsource PC ports too. Other than Aliens: Colonial Marines, what other outsource botches have happened lately?
From my experience western audiences WANT japanese developed games from capcom. They think we are fucking dumb or something and will only like the games if they are "westernized" like DMC with it's screamo angst vibe. Or Resident Evil which has gone the path of Gears of War basically.
Capcom is fucking ignorant. Just make GOOD games with that Japanese school of thought.
Honestly if you want to "westernize" it, at least don't go full blown ass. Dragon's Dogma and Dread Rising are fucking perfect examples of combining that honed, polished as fuck arcadey japanese style gameplay feel with inspirations brought from western games.

Postal 3, Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City, Silent Hill Downpour, The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct

Well, Deus Ex Human Revolution suffered from outsourced boss fights but that's been a year or two ago already.
Outsourcing is one of the worst things you can really do to a game series.
Part of the reason why I dislike Capcom more than EA.
Ugh.
The strategy they should use is to just make a game as normal for their Japanese audience, and then just localize it. To be honest, the West (More specifically, America) has pretty horrible devs, with the only decent trio being Valve, Bethesda and Bungie (And to be honest, I think they're all in a bit of a decline as well).
Build your ark (Or in this case, any Japanese game), and they will come (If it is marketed properly, I mean, goddamn. Japanese publishers are exceptionally weak on marketing in the west.)

It's not that the American horror games are worse, they just don't fucking exist. Many action games get mislabled as horror for having monsters/zombies/demons/aliens, but those things exist as cannon fodder and thus can't adequately fill a horrific role. I can understand Capcom not bothering with the Swedish style since you're usually unarmed in those games (which has never been the case in RE), but there's really nobody else bringing anything to the table other than Japan.
The only time it seemed to work well for Capcom was Dead Rising 2. (Blue Castle games in Vancouver)

Agreed, Dead Rising 2 was a fantastic successor to the original game.
Also, it's fine if Capcom wants to go after the Western Audience, the problem is that they're fucking with their beloved franchises like RE and DMC and the fans. I know that I'm not exactly dying for RE 7 at the moment. I guess developing new IPs (An admittedly hard thing to do well) was out of the question.
