For example, is a hamburger a drug?
Yes, a helluvadrug
drug (drug) 1. a chemical substance that affects the processes of the mind or body. 2. any chemical compound used in the diagnosis, treatment, or prevention of disease or other abnormal condition. 3. a substance used recreationally for its effects on the central nervous system, such as a narcotic. 4. to administer a drug to.
A hamburger is not a chemical substance. Even if you separate all the components of the burger (proteins, carbonhydrates, minerals, etc) I still wouldn't say that the hamburger is "made of drugs" since the nutritients doesn't really affect the processes in your body (they get processed and they are needed for your body, but they don't change the way your organs and mind normally work).
Who says it must be?
Wikipedia among others.
A drug, broadly speaking, is any substance that, when absorbed into the body of a living organism, alters normal bodily function.[3] There is no single, precise definition, as there are different meanings in drug control law, government regulations, medicine, and colloquial usage.
