This is a question that should be answered by their userbase than within their team, unless they want to potentially piss a bunch of people off.
I would say no. You can obtain most of the currencies just by playing the game and the userbase is really friendly and would be willing to help pretty much anyone who comes along with a question.
The game is not complicated, but it does lack basic descriptions and descriptions, in many ways the descriptions of, say, abilities and stats are very, very basic, even lackluster.
I find it difficult to even see Guild Wars 2 as being anything near complicated; but I grew up with UO and SWG so everything is essentially simple to me nowadays.
It's good there's no meta to keep up with, but aside from that I had no clue what combos were until about 30 hours of gameplay
They're right in a way that there is a large amount of currencies.
I wouldn't say it's too complicated, just that everything in it, for me. Feels like a chore. I mean I play Eve Online and mine from time to time and that feels less like a chore then just normally play GW2.
Crafting could be better...
Crafting could be better...
Crafting is totally useless in GW2. It is so easy everyone has 400 which makes crafted goods useless and underpriced. It also suffers from where <80 does not matter. I just buy cheapest gear every 10 levels before 80 because there is no use from rares or exotics if you're not 80 as you will level after half an hour anyway. Waste of gold. Just like any other generic mmo gw2 also suffers from soulbinding everything. As for currencies I feel that karma feels very redundant.
Well let's see... There's Skillpoints There's Gold There's WvW Tokens There's SPvP Glory There's Karma There's Laurels There's Fractal Tokens There's Dungeon Tokens (seperate tokens for each dungeon, so there's what, like 9?) There's Guild Merits There's Guild Influence There's Gems They've got a point
It's only really complicated on the first few days of playing, then it all kinda sinks in I'd say.
I would say its overly simple. Sure you've a bunch of different currencies, but it isn't too difficult to find out how those are earned. The game is pretty straight forward: Level to 80, play barbie adventure show, PvP/WvW as end-game. PvP might be the most complicated part if anything.
Well let's see... There's Skillpoints - to unlock skills and later use as currencies for special crafting materials There's Gold - currency to buy mostly everything There's WvW Tokens - tokens used for gear in WvW, this applies to every single dungeon token. You want this gear? Get these tokens. There's SPvP Glory - Currency used exclusively for sPvP (not even needed, just for cosmetic changes), player skill is the major factor There's Karma - another type of currency for more specific items found throughout the world sold by merchants There's Laurels - currency earned through dailies and monthlies, there's special laurel merchants in each major city that sell what would normally be pricey gear in exchange for laurels. There's Fractal Tokens - refer to wvw tokens There's Dungeon Tokens (seperate tokens for each dungeon, so there's what, like 9?) - refer to wvw tokens There's Guild Merits - special guild points earned when completing the new guild missions, more merits earns you more missions There's Guild Influence - special guild points earned to purchase guild upgrades There's Gems - cash shop currency bought with either money or exchanged using a gold transfer option They've got a point
None of that is complicated, they're all pretty straight forward if you read the description of said stuff or if you don't act stupid and actually just research it a tad. All of them are just currencies for specific things.
i don't see what the problem is with having multiple ways to obtain gear and other items if anything the game is too basic [editline]17th March 2013[/editline]
Crafting is totally useless in GW2. Debate is good. They don't want it to become like GW1, which although was a fantastic game, did get overly complex for anyone trying to enter later on in the life of the game.
