That would really break the immersion when doing surgery IMO

This is actually pretty cool, its not "3d" its technically Augmented Reality; which has a ton of uses both in professions and as consumers.
In this case, they where doing a "pinhole" surgery, where a little tube goes in and actually does the surgery, and instead of relying on low-resolution monitors to look at every few seconds, they can just see the tube's location overlayed on their view.

That looks like a bad example to me. It's like that mechanics hasn't messed with a BMW before.
I'd hate to think surgeons are relying on stuff like that to do surgery.
