Hackers belonging to the "Lizard Squad" claimed to have taken down Xbox Live on Monday evening, apparently by means of a DDOS attack. The hacking group, which Attack of the Fanboy noted has been targeting gaming servers for several months, tweeted a short message at 8:37 p.m. Eastern celebrating their latest exploit: "Xbox Live #offline." Gamers have confirmed intermittent Xbox Live service outages with numerous tweets complaining about not being able to sign into Microsoft's network and wondering when the issue will be fixed.
http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2472982,00.asp?fullsite=true
So that's the problem. I was pulling my hair out as to why I couldn't get onto Xbox Live while my internet was working perfectly fine.
Thankfully services seem to be back up as of now :)
Was anything stolen?
Was anything stolen?
My valuable time watching Netflix.
Was anything stolen?
A botnet is a series of computers infected with rootkit malware. The only intent I know of for a botnet is just to impose a massive DDOS by using all the infected server to send requests to a server. So no, nothing was stolen. Was it AGGmyn in disguise?
Oh my fucking god hopefully the ass holes get caught soon and go to prison or jail whatever they go to will be fine by me. Keep ruining others experiences and made psn go out for several weeks (if I am correct). So that's why a bud of mine on Warframe got dropped out... huh alright at least I will be able to build my archwing tomorrow of 36 hours.
why bother ddos'ing xbox it's not like i can play halo matchmaking anyway
A DDoS attack is as much of a hack as the one in NCIS.
ohh that'd explain why ABC iView isn't working on my xbox
Augh I'm so sick of gfwl on games and this is why but not sure if GFWL was also effected. it's still basically xbox live though.
well i cant really defend microsoft considering they and sony both charge a 10 dollar subscription fee for their service when they make more than enough to pay for the server costs anyway
well i cant really defend microsoft considering they and sony both charge a 10 dollar subscription fee for their service when they make more than enough to pay for the server costs anyway
yeah so it's definitely justified to fuck over paying customers right
Lizard Squad? That just screams autism, never heard of them.
yeah so it's definitely justified to fuck over paying customers right
the point i was trying to make is that there should not be any paying customers to begin with, you should be able to use youtube, netflix and every other third party app without having to go through xbox lives bullshit. if watching youtube on a pc is free then why do i have to have xbox live gold just to fucking do it on my xbox
the point i was trying to make is that there should not be any paying customers to begin with, you should be able to use youtube, netflix and every other third party app without having to go through xbox lives bullshit. if watching youtube on a pc is free then why do i have to have xbox live gold just to fucking do it on my xbox
Well I have just the thing for you! You can, as of May of this year, watch Netflix, YouTube, Hulu, and other such apps without an Xbox Live Gold subscription. You can watch the same shit anywhere else on the web for free, why should they charge you to? If you don't get the correlation there, them I'm afraid all is lost.
well i cant really defend microsoft considering they and sony both charge a 10 dollar subscription fee for their service when they make more than enough to pay for the server costs anyway
so DDoSing is OK so long as they're bad guys? that's stupid and naive
It was down? I was using Xbox Live earlier. :v:
Wait so you needed a premium membership to watch your accounts which you pay for already? i knew xbox was shit but honestly?
My favorite is that you needed Gold to browse the internet using IE for Xbox. A web browser needed a premium subscription to even function. And I can't believe people were okay with that.
My favorite is that you needed Gold to browse the internet using IE for Xbox. A web browser needed a premium subscription to even function. And I can't believe people were okay with that.
they obviously weren't if they complained enough to get it changed
they obviously weren't if they complained enough to get it changed
The fact that it took years to happen is astonishing though. But I guess MS had you by the balls and most Xbox users pay for it anyway.
Augh I'm so sick of gfwl on games and this is why but not sure if GFWL was also effected. it's still basically xbox live though.
i was playing iv and it disconnected me.(on pc)
My favorite is that you needed Gold to browse the internet using IE for Xbox. A web browser needed a premium subscription to even function. And I can't believe people were okay with that.
Who the fuck uses their Xbox to go on IE?
why even bother
A bunch of kids rented a botnet with moms credit card and think they've accomplished something noteworthy, what else is new.
Who the fuck uses their Xbox to go on IE?
well there isn't Chrome or Firefox is there
A botnet is a series of computers infected with rootkit malware.
Doesn't have to involve rootkits
