When Thomas Baker was confronted by two youths while out on a late night run he decided to defend himself. Having been punched in the face and fearing his attacker was armed he pulled out a handgun from his pocket and shot dead the teenager who had hit him
Yes, it's Daily Mail, sue me So basically, this guy was out jogging, heard this teen saying something along the lines of 'I'm gonna knock him out' and promptly got punched in the face. Out of panic/self defense, he grabbed his gun (LEGALLY OWNED AND HE HAD A PERMIT FOR IT, JUST IN CASE YOU WERE WONDERING), fired 8 shots and killed one of his assailants (who was unarmed btw). He's being let off without charges citing a law that states you're allowed to use deadly force if you believe your life is in danger. This should be an interesting thread to say the least.
Ban all guns all gun owners are racist nerds and rednecks [editline]18th January 2011[/editline] Wow he killed an unarmed guy he should be given the death penalty
Hahaaha, he got punched in the face so he shot him dead, what a pussy. Edit: I was kidding, I would've done the same. :ohdear:
I would've fired once to scare them shitless. No need to empty the whole pistol on someone.
Fired 8 shots and killed 1 person? I guess he didn't have Steady Aim.
Interesting how Daily Mail puts mugger in scare quotes and has a picture of that guy who shot the Senator.
Oh well, maybe you should think a few times before punching random people for no reason.
This happened in the fucking UK and the guy didn't get hung over the side of the dover cliffs? Holy shit Britain i'm impressed.
Florida's Stand Your Ground Law wins again. It's a great law.

He shot 8 times, he had the intent to kill not defend himself...
Cool fact. More civilians have murdered each other in America with guns, than the entire casualty rate of all the wars America has been involved in since it's inception. Cooler EDIT: More Americans were killed by guns in the 18 years between 1979 and 1997 than died in all of America’s foreign wars since its independence.
He shot 8 times, he had the intent to kill not defend himself...
ok mr phd [editline]18th January 2011[/editline]
Cool fact. I agree with his decision, someone who just decides to attack random people is obviously not right in the head, and may very well be armed.
that tends to happen with a large urban country that's been a large urban country for 200 years you could probably say the same about britian or other countries, except without guns
It just makes a mockery of the whole 'Safety through Guns' argument.
Yeah but America has been a country since it's been a country. It hasn't been in wars every year its been a country
One thing i have against gun laws is, why? I can find weed and it is illegal, if i was a criminal and guns were illegal, i'd probably be just as able to find a gun if i knew the right people. Might as well give everyone that chance. It's like trying to add a new piece of DRM, most of us will be able to get around that anyways, no matter how secure they claim it to be.
Yeah but America has been a country since it's been a country. It hasn't been in wars every year its been a country
Sorry I miss-paraphrased. This is what I meant to say: More Americans were killed by guns in the 18 years between 1979 and 1997 than died in all of America’s foreign wars since its independence. At a rate of 30,000 a year. Giving it the highest murder rate in the developed world.
Kid deserved it. I was in the situation, I'd have done the same.
Good. One less punk on the street.

But they don't, and deaths fell dramatically. Most gun deaths are not rigorously pre-planned
With regards to the number of shots fired, I figure if I was adrenalined out and thought someone was gonna fuck me up and in that situation I probably wouldn't have much motor control over the amount I shot Heck in paintball it's hard enough not to burn someone up when they get too close, let alone an armed man While the death is somewhat tragic I don't really think the man's actions were wrong -most of us would likely do the same in that situation out of fear alone
He shot 8 times, he had the intent to kill not defend himself...
You seem to be unaware of how the human brain works when using a gun. When attacked, if you fire a single shot and it kills, it's basically a cold-blooded execution. If you fire all bullets you have, you were indeed fearing your safety and out of panic kept firing.

Lolno, I'll love to see your source, at the most it's been around 16,204 in 2009.With a little more than half (9,369) of those being firearm related, with almost all of those murders (84%) being committed with illegally obtained firearms. I was going by http://www.economist.com/node/17902699. The economist is an incredibly reliable source. And I never said 30,000 'murders'.

Lets sympathize the kid and hope the guy doesn't suffer from guilt or something.
Good. It's about time they stopped charging people when they use their right of self defense. And to those saying "Well, he only punched him, so why'd he unload the gun on them?". This man was in panic. He's alone, just been assaulted by one of them, and feels his life is in danger. His adrenaline kicked in, and he acted only responsively. He was in a state of panic and adrenaline rush, and in those moments, it's very difficult to control what you do: your body basically takes over.
Well, we have different values, and i live in a country where firearms are illegal, it will be pointless to argue about this. Lets sympathize the kid and hope the guy doesn't suffer from guilt or something.
Firearms are illegal where I live as well.
He was in panic and he probably didn't have the time to think if the assailant is brandishing a firearm. Not everyday where some random punk will just try to pick a fight with you for no reason.
Exactly, and it wasn't just a picked fight. He was being robbed, and with no one around to help him, he did what he had to do.
Haha the law is so clean cut and awesome
