What shall we do with the drunken sailor? Drunk Russian officer crashes cargo ship into Scotland.
A Russian officer on watch when a 423ft cargo ship ran aground at full speed in Scotland had drunk half a litre of rum before taking up his post, an investigation has found.
The chief officer on watch, a 36-year-old Russian, had consumed half a litre of rum in his cabin before taking up his shift as the sole officer on watch at midnight, but had “become inattentive due to the effects of alcohol consumption”.
His actions led the ship to run aground at full speed into the rocky foreshore, where it remained for two days during bad weather.
Must not make Russian joke...must not make Russian joke!
Same thing happened back in December here in Denmark.
I love how it's not "Drunken Russian causes ship to run aground on rocks" or anything along those lines, but rather "Drunken Russian crashes ship into Scotland".
Sounds so very aggressive, and Russian.
It resulted in such bad damage to the ship that the vessel had to be scrapped, while damage to the hull and some fuel tanks led to 25 tonnes of marine gas oil entering the water, a report from the Marine Accident Investigation Branch (MAIB) found.
It's the anchor's chain scraping against the hull

anchor chains being pulled on, you can sort of see them, especially when they finally went taught at the end

Da. Will clean up fuel-oil with use of blowtorch.
What? You complain that coast is now on fire? Why? Fuel-oil is now gone. Problem of solved.

Lol as if bunker fuel is remotely combustible, you have to heat the shit up 100° just to liquify it, those ships are basically burning asphalt for fuel

It's hard to tell but it looks like the hydraulic Windlass was failing to hold onto the anchor being drug across the sea floor but then again it's not really designed for that.
The massive plume of rust coming from the chain so that kinda tells me all of their equipment is in pretty bad shape.

Doesn't those ships run on diesel? Diesel fumes ignite at 80 degrees celcius or something

No they run on the bottom of the barrel oil which has to be made to burn, but is incredibly cheap
