So, I just moved into my college dorm, and when connect to my wifi, I had to download some Java program (Cisco or something) in order to get onto the wifi. When doing so, chrome informed me a couple times that I was taking a risk installing this. I thought nothing of it (And still do), but since then, a lot of programs won't open. For example, when I open steam, it gives a message like "Steam bootstrapper has stopped working", or when I try to open Catalyst, I get a similar message. I've gotten an EAccess Violation message a couple times, on top of re-installing Java, Steam, and Catalyst. I'm not really sure where to go from here, so I'd appreciate some assistance. Also, if any more info is needed, let me know
No idea what the program was that you installed, but it doesn't sound good. Try opening command prompt and type sfc /scannow
What does the Event Log say? What processes did the program add (startup, services, etc)? Edit: If the program is absolutely required to connect to the wifi and is the source of the problems, maybe you could create a virtual machine, install the program on the guest, VPN into it from the host, and pipe all your net connections through it. It's a bit extreme and probably convoluted, but hey, why not?
Try this http://steamcommunity.com/app/202990/discussions/0/810924774385209728/
Didn't fix the issue, unfortunately. Still got the bootstrapper error.
What was it exactly that you installed
"sfc /scannow" is the correct syntax. You have "sfc/ scannow". About the Event Log, mistake on my part, it's "Event Viewer". Anyways, Event Viewer -> Custom Views -> Administrative Events and Event Viewer -> Windows Logs -> Application should show you any problems. Check Programs and Features in the Control Panel to see what you installed or tell us the name of the installer and what it says it is installing. It'll help us pin down the issue.
What was it exactly that you installed
Cisco Network Access (NAC)
So, this? http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/security/nac/appliance/configuration_guide/49/cam/m_webagt.html The above link goes through the steps for installation (and prompting for installation) which sound like what you had to do. I think the Cisco program's install routine didn't run correctly and botched some steps. Also, does Windows report limited or no connectivity to the net? Do all programs have problems or just Steam, Catalyst, and Origin? Are you using a different machine/network to post here?

No, I'm using the device atm, and can access applications like Chrome and Skype.
sounds like shitty unstable nanny-ware
I wonder if the network/software is blocking specific traffic.
Do you have a 64 bit OS
You know what? I ended up doing a system restore to right before I installed the Cisco, and now everything is working fine. I guess the install was botched to some ungodly point or something, but everything is working now, so I have no complaints. Thanks for the help, everyone.
