I'm a little confused by the article. The weapons are part of the cost but the ability to rest etc are coming in an update? That's a giant price just for a few more rifles.

Welcome to Arma 3 DLC. The free part of helicopter DLC was nice. It added slingloading and firing from vehicles, then the actual DLC was $16 for 2 helicopters.
The MilSim group I play with are gonna have a field day with this, can't wait.
The question of why the hell it took over 10 years to get bipods
I mean like, they were on the guns. You just couldn't use them.
I tried out all of the guns on the dev branch, and have to say they were all incredibly underwhelming. The new sounds and weapon resting were pretty top notch though. [sp]I also might be butthurt that they failed to add a proper SVD while they still did the old M14...[/sp]
BIS should really go back to their DLC model of arma 2, where we got entire factions and new vehicles as DLC, rather than a couple of guns and a helicopter or two for ~25$

hopefully there will be a sort of operation arrowhead for arma 3

Look at it this way: The cost of the DLC funds the (free) continued development of ArmA for everyone, the weapons (and helicopters previously) are just a reward for funding it.

Those are still coming. After the Marksmen DLC they're going for a full-blown expansion pack again, introducing new terrain and factions. I'm very glad with how Bohemia supports Arma 3, really.

I have always hoped for them to do something like that but unfortunately it seems to me that they will be right on track to making some pretty shitty DLC for this game. Why spend $16 on a pack of guns or 2 helicopters? Does that not sound ridiculous when they say that out loud?

Now if you put it that way it makes a lot of sense. They neglected to put that on the Store page because everyone is thoroughly convinced that these are just a blatant money grab. Can you post a link to show me that this is their reasoning?

The sad thing is that those frequently requested features like FFV were already present in some post-2001 iteration of VBS1, and that was done with the OFP generation engine!

And not only that, it also allowed players to walk inside vehicles as it moved, something ARMA 3 still does't have

Pretty sure it's not something BI stated themselves. Each of these DLCs, other than Karts, has come with a new set of features (for everyone) that the DLC content takes advantage of. I'd be willing to bet that implementing FFV/bipods/weapon resting and creating the AFM took much more effort than those pieces of content, but these are the parts we're getting for free. Buying the DLCs is pretty much a token of appreciation.

VBS is a military product and developed separately from ARMA. Also many special features you see are quick and hacky rig ups without elaborate enough groundwork that were accepted by their clients as good enough for some iteration of vbs. They are bound to have some weird limitations and bugs.

FFV in VBS is terrible, especially compared to the ArmA3 implementation. People would be annoyed as hell had it been implemented into ArmA in that state.
As for walking in vehicles, it doesn't work as well as a lot of people think. Plus its only possible because of the werid PhysX implementation VBS has.
