A few days old, but I didn't see a thread about it.
Jesse L. Jackson Jr., the former Democratic representative from Illinois, pleaded guilty on Wednesday to one felony fraud count in connection with his use of $750,000 in campaign money to pay for living expenses and buy items like stuffed animals, elk heads and fur capes.

“For years I lived off my campaign,” Mr. Jackson, 47, said in response to questions from the judge about the plea. “I used money I shouldn’t have used for personal purposes.”

Among those items were a $5,000 football signed by American presidents and two hats that once belonged to Michael Jackson, including a $4,600 fedora.
He also spent over 43K on a rolex, almost 18K on cigars, 28k on Michael Jackson memorabilia, and a whole bunch of other frivolous crap. Guy must be completely disconnected from reality.
A few days old, but I didn't see a thread about it.
You didn't see a thread because people like to pretend there aren't corrupt Democrats
You didn't see a thread because people like to pretend there aren't corrupt Democrats
Or the fact that barely anybody here browses news and mostly just gets it from FP. People have known that Jesse Jackson Jr. has been a scumbag for years. KINDA WHY HE'S A FORMER REPRESENTATIVE
I've been following this now, I knew he was bad, but this is outrageous
excuse me it is a rolex not a rollex [editline]23rd February 2013[/editline] and memorabilia not memoriblia
will that golden watch and michael jackson stuff be sold to raise money for public things? Thats the only good I can see that can be got out of this.
Only a max of 57 months in jail? How about you bar him from running for office ever again
Only a max of 57 months in jail? How about you bar him from running for office ever again
And this isn't even Jail. It's rich person jail. He'll essentially be in a house arrest resort.
Just another criminal politician from Illinois, move along.
Gotta love white collar crime.
But he's black
But he's black
He still wears a white shirt when he wears a suit. Unless he's part of the mob, he probably has mob connections though.
Jackson's frivolity ain't got shit on Gaddafi
But he's black
You're pulling my chain right?
You're pulling my chain right?
Yes. I know what a blue collar and white collar worker is.
My state showing off it's best politicians, yet again.
Only a max of 57 months in jail? How about you bar him from running for office ever again
I think the damage to his reputation pretty much guarantees he won't ever see a government position ever again.
I dunno if the article mentions it but his wife is going down too. She testified or someshit to get out being charged and then the DA turned it around on her and shes facing like 2years in prison.
Just another criminal politician from Illinois, move along.
At least his name is pronounceable.
You didn't see a thread because people like to pretend there aren't corrupt Democrats
yes it's actually a hidden Facepunch conspiracy to obfuscate corrupt Democrats. It couldn't be that just no one heard about the story or felt like posting it like 90% of news articles. I hadn't even heard of Jesse Jackson Jr. 16 agrees too at time of this post and people call FP liberal lol.
He should've at least bought cool stuff. If it were me I would've bought shit like a gold toilet and my own tank.
it IS a nice watch i must say so myself
What a colossal asshole. Though I wouldn't expect any less from the son of Rev. Jesse Jackson.
Illinois has a long history of corrupt politicians.
Rod Blagojevich — Governor from 2003 through 2009, when he became the first Illinois governor in history to be impeached. Convicted of numerous corruption charges Monday, including allegations that he tried to sell or trade President Barack Obama's old Senate seat. George Ryan — Governor from 1999 through 2003. After leaving office, was convicted of racketeering for actions as governor and secretary of state. In November 2007, began serving 6 1/2 years in federal prison. U.S. Rep. Dan Rostenkowski — Pleaded guilty to corruption charges and left office in 1995. Served 17 months in prison, but was pardoned by President Bill Clinton. Rostenkowski was a representative from 1959-95. U.S. Rep. Mel Reynolds — Convicted of misconduct with a 16-year-old campaign volunteer and resigned in 1995. Served more than two years in prison. Later convicted on federal wire and bank fraud charges and sentenced to more than six years in prison. President Clinton commuted that sentence. Dan Walker — Governor from 1973-1977. Pleaded guilty to bank fraud and other charges in 1987 related to his business activities after leaving office. Spent just over a year and a half in federal prison. Otto Kerner — Governor from 1961-1968. Resigned to become judge, then was convicted of bribery related to his tenure as governor. Sentenced to three years in prison. William G. Stratton — Governor from 1953-1961. Indicted after leaving office on income-tax evasion charges but was acquitted. Lennington Small — Governor from 1921-1929. Indicted while in office on embezzlement charges but was acquitted. Joel Matteson — Governor from 1853-1857. After leaving office, a Sangamon County court ruled that he owed the state more than $253,000 in connection with a scheme to pay government contractors. His property was sold at auction. Secretary of State Paul Powell — Roughly $800,000 was found stuffed in shoe boxes Powell's home after he died in 1970. Auditor Orville Hodge — Pleaded guilty in the 1950s to embezzling more than $1.5 million from the state while in office. He used the money to buy two planes, four automobiles and homes in Illinois and Florida. Attorney General William Scott — Convicted of tax fraud and spent a year in prison in the 1980s. Was Illinois attorney general from 1969-80.

Illinois has a long history of corrupt politicians.
I blame Chicago. A lot of people here, downstate think Chicago should be a state of its own. With good reason, too.
I blame Chicago. A lot of people here, downstate think Chicago should be a state of its own. With good reason, too.
Why? So we can have another backwards hick state?
Yet people still bash New Jersey as a political wasteland? :v:
yes it's actually a hidden Facepunch conspiracy to obfuscate corrupt Democrats.
Only a max of 57 months in jail? How about you bar him from running for office ever again
If we barred Illinois politicians from running we'd run out of them in a week. We'd have to import Indiana politicians: the granola of politicians.
Yet people still bash New Jersey as a political wasteland? :v:
New Jersey is actually more corrupt than Illinois based on corruption convictions. I believe Illinois is number 7 on the list of most corrupt states. Chicago, on the other hand, is the most corrupt city by a huge margin.
