I'm buying a new monitor (or monitors) and I can't decide between a 27" (1080p), 2x 24"s (1080p each) or 3x 22"s (1680x1050).
I'll be using just a single 6870 for all monitors, I will be playing many games and using it for general computing.
I'm upgrading from a 22" 1680x1050 and a 26" television (720p).
In my opinion, 2 24" monitors is ideal. You get two screens to work with, which is TONS better than one larger one, and you also get full 1080p for games, unlike the 1680x1050 monitors.

I use 2 22" 1080 monitors and have a 6870 as well. I can confirm that it is great
I am leaning more towards the 2x 24", the 3x 22"'s I probably wouldn't use for games, and the 27" just doesn't seem like great bang for my buck. Plus in future I can always use my 22" as a center and then triple monitor gaming!
But more suggestions are appreciated.
3x22 would be nice for eyefinity.
2x24"
But don't bother playing games on 2 screens.
FPS's would look like shit due to split in middle of screen, RTS is just weird etc.
I say get 3x22" and get a triplemonitor stand, then run them in eyefinity as the 6870 will have no problem running games at 5040 x 1050 or 5760 x 1080. Also you cant do triple monitor gaming with 2x24+22, as the images will stretch/be out of proportion.

Trouble is, the only tripple monitor stand I've ever seen costs as much as one of the monitors.

This is what I got, other stands are in the reaches of £200+ and it does the job perfectly.
I like 22" the best, 27" is way to big in my opinion and 24" is too expensive for an extra 2".
I have the Samsung T220 and it works just like I want it to.

Go ask a friend or a machine shop to make you one. It is honestly 20 usd in materials and maybe 30 for labor. The markup is outrageous.
I'd say get 2x22" (Buy a new one since you already have a 22")
You get the most screen with three monitors, so I would recommend going for that.

Yeah, He comes in a box which has no air holes. I left him in there and he kind of died.
It's for the best.
