Hey guys, today I downloaded the Chrome OS Beta according to the TechCrunch article ( http://www.techcrunch.com/2009/11/19/guide-install-google-chrome-os/ ). Everything was going swimmingly until I started it up and it wouldn't let me log in with some error about not being able to connect to the internet. So i turned the VM off and looked at the seetings and everything seemed in order so I restarted and it had the same problems. Any help is very appreciated as i would really like to use this software on my netbook.

Boot straight from it with no VM bullshit. :)

Go into settings options. Then go to networking. Choose nat in the second drop down box.

You don't have to install it to your HDD, you can simply use it on a USB drive or SD card...

Click on the gear next to it and uncheck something like cable connected. Then while in chome os go to networking and check connection 1.

Yeah mine is laggy also.
lol, youtube is funny about .5 FPS

Yeah I have like 1 gig of ram alocated to it and it is still laggy.
i do too, and the max 128mb for GFX and 3d accel on. one of my main problems with it is the small screen everything is laggy to scroll so its horrible. i cant wait for final.
Of course it's slower, you're virtualising it.
i know that but its only displaying an 6.5x8 display and since it doesnt scale its reall annoying.

yeah me to. Also I can't get it to go full screen.
Also hexxex win xp is not laggy and supposedly chrome is optimized so it should be faster.
when i do click "full screen" all it does is lock everything else out and make the empty cscreen around it turn black

It's more likely a case of VMWare is optimised for Windows and doesn't have a clue what it's running and so can't enable any optimisations when you tell it to run Chromium. No idea though, just guessing. But if you're going to judge speed at least run it natively before you do.
we arent exactly judging speed but with this version, the free one, you use virtualbox. for the 40 dollar one from GDGT ( http://gdgt.com/google/chrome-os/ ) uses VMWare

Same thing.
yea, but 1 is free and one is 40 dollars.

They both do the same thing. And actually, VMWare Player is free. Not sure if Player is enough to get it working, though. I don't think they provided a VM configuration file so you need Workstation to make one or something. It's not a fantastic release really, and neither is the USB one they did. They just butchered the existing imaging scripts and did a bad job at that. :(
yeah, vmware is free, but the VM image the site is selling is what they charge you for
yeah, vmware is free, but the VM image the site is selling is what they charge you for
Uhh, no they're not. It's here, free, gratis: http://gdgt.com/google/chrome-os/download/
no, click the thing and it brings you to the "free" thing but it isnt idk why it says that
Just sayin, you know, watching a video on YouTube using Chromium OS, HQ enabled, no stuttering, smooth as silk. The only issue I'm having is the slightly slow loading due to the not-so-great-WiFi drivers...
