Why is the title "Valve shows off console hardware" when the article itself clearly states that "no details of the internal hardware have been given".
yuck
yuck
Why yuck?
Though i do think the box design is bizarre. I tend to want something slim and sleek near the tv, not a cube.
I expected the Steambox console to be upgradeable.
My problem is the same problem with the xbox and the ps3. While it's not as horrible looking as those - I like my living room looking grown up - so I'd rather have something minimalist and neat looking.
More so than something that looks like it fell off the engine of a car.

Atleast it doesn't have the valve logo all over it.
Buy a vase and put it inside there then, with all the wires hanging out.

Don't worry, they already thought of that.

As long as you never ever look behind your monitor it should be the most minimal thing in the house.

Piston?
Why not Sauna (it being the Steam Box and all)

Because it's not powered by Nvidia.
Oh 'cmon lighten up guys.

Seems like Piston and the Steambox are seperated projects.

So piston is a linux-based PC and the Steambox is a console? Interesting if it is that way.
I expected the Steambox console to be upgradeable.
This isn't the Steambox.

I was expecting them to design the box to look similar to this:
[t]http://nexus404.com/Blog/wp-content/uploads2/2008/03/lacie-1tb-minimalist-desktop-hard-disk.jpg[/t]
I'd like that much better.
I'd be impressed if they could make it possible - but I would like an apple tv sized thing more..

Even the old apple tv

My cat would love to knock that off my shelf
We don't know if this is what the final product looks like yet, do we? It might not be far from that but I still think the looks are subject to change.

Because this news has been mis-reported hundreds of times as "Valve announces" when Valve haven't even said anything.

So like the Xi3 computers are then?
Because this news has been mis-reported hundreds of times as "Valve announces" when Valve haven't even said anything.
Yeah, they only showed it off at the Valve CES booth and said they gave money to Xi3.

Actually, Xi3 did show it off, Valve is just backing it up behind the scenes with money.

I think a more practical case to work from would be an extruded aluminum LaCie hard drive enclosure. You can still set up a U-shaped ventilation solution or try for some sort of passive cooling hybrid.

Plus they're pretty damn minimalist.

I read somewhere that the device was in both the Xi3 and Valve booths.
I kinda like the look of Xi3s myself.
Paint over the chrome end pieces and it's a pretty sexy box
