• Apple CEO Tim Cook reveals he is gay
For years, I’ve been open with many people about my sexual orientation. Plenty of colleagues at Apple know I’m gay, and it doesn’t seem to make a difference in the way they treat me. Of course, I’ve had the good fortune to work at a company that loves creativity and innovation and knows it can only flourish when you embrace people’s differences. Not everyone is so lucky. While I have never denied my sexuality, I haven’t publicly acknowledged it either, until now. So let me be clear: I’m proud to be gay, and I consider being gay among the greatest gifts God has given me. Being gay has given me a deeper understanding of what it means to be in the minority and provided a window into the challenges that people in other minority groups deal with every day. It’s made me more empathetic, which has led to a richer life. It’s been tough and uncomfortable at times, but it has given me the confidence to be myself, to follow my own path, and to rise above adversity and bigotry. It’s also given me the skin of a rhinoceros, which comes in handy when you’re the CEO of Apple.
http://www.businessweek.com/articles/2014-10-30/tim-cook-im-proud-to-be-gay
Tim Cook: "Now for me to reveal, iGay."
I thought this had been well-known ever since he became the CEO?

Okay? Is being gay still that big of a deal it still has to be reported upon? Guys, did you hear? Jon Stewart is straight! Fucking crazy, right?
I think the healthiest reaction is somewhere along the lines of 'so?' In a perfect world this wouldn't change the way people think about him and apple and it wouldn't make a headline.
Okay? Is being gay still that big of a deal it still has to be reported upon? Guys, did you hear? Jon Stewart is straight! Fucking crazy, right?
It isn't a report, it's written by Tim.
Tim Cook: "Now for me to reveal, iGay."
Would have been the best way to announce it. Shame he didn't take the opportunity. :v:
It isn't a report, it's written by Tim.
I still don't see the necessity in it.
I haven't publicly acknowledged it either, until now.
Bad reading on my part, so it's just been an unconfirmed rumor up until this point, then
Now watch as homophobes will not buy Apple products thinking it will turn them homosexual.
I still don't see the necessity in it.
It's always great for the gay community when an important, powerful public figure comes out as gay. I don't know why you have to be so negative about it.
It's always great for the gay community when an important, powerful public figure comes out as gay. I don't know why you have to be so negative about it.
Because it shouldn't be a big enough deal to be news.
Because it shouldn't be a big enough deal to be news.
In a perfect world, sure. But in a world still full of homophobia it's a good thing to have these public figures give a powerful face to the gay community.
now bring it back
-snip- what was i thinking.
It's a shame that this is something that needs to be a headline in today's society, but it's great to hear prominent people speak up.
Because it shouldn't be a big enough deal to be news.
Coming out is still a huge issue in many parts of the world so major figures coming out publicly can do a lot of good for other people.
I wonder if the members of Westboro will burn their iPhones.
you go girl!
Now watch as homophobes will not buy Apple products thinking it will turn them homosexual.
I'm waiting for Apple's stock price to dip.
Now watch as homophobes will not buy Apple products thinking it will turn them homosexual.
There's 99 problems with apple products, being a bitch ain't one.
At this point, I think you only differentiate gay people by pretending this is a big deal.
How so? He wrote up the article in case it could help with the struggles of gay people.
I don’t consider myself an activist, but I realize how much I’ve benefited from the sacrifice of others. So if hearing that the CEO of Apple is gay can help someone struggling to come to terms with who he or she is, or bring comfort to anyone who feels alone, or inspire people to insist on their equality, then it’s worth the trade-off with my own privacy.

Now watch as homophobes will not buy Apple products thinking it will turn them homosexual.
They don't? Darn.
How so? He wrote up the article in case it could help with the struggles of gay people.
I don't agree with the idea behind fitting people in boxes, there is a whole stigma behind being "gay". you shouldn't have to go and stand up on a table in hs an announce to your whole school that you're gay. If you want to have a relationship with somebody you should be able to do it and not worry about the social norms, standard, etc. It should be a fluent thing and you shouldn't enforce being gay as a group. Its a kinda idealistic pov ... i guess. That being said, my previous post is a stupid broad statement. i hope him coming out helps a lot of people.
Who cares?
A good marketing move tbh
Who cares?
Gay people
Okay? Is being gay still that big of a deal it still has to be reported upon? Guys, did you hear? Jon Stewart is straight! Fucking crazy, right?
Because we can still say this:
Now watch as homophobes will not buy Apple products thinking it will turn them homosexual.
This really supports the stereotypes about apple.
