Privatise child protection services, Department for Education proposes
The power to take children away from their families could be privatised along with other child protection services under controversial plans the government has quietly announced.
The proposal from Michael Gove's Department for Education (DfE) to permit the outsourcing of children's social services to companies such as G4S and Serco has alarmed experts. They say profit-making companies should not be in charge of such sensitive family matters, and warn that the introduction of the profit motive into child protection may distort the decision-making process.
A DfE consultation paper published last month argues that enabling local authorities to outsource children's social services will encourage innovation and improve outcomes for at-risk youngsters.
Private providers will allow authorities to "harness third party expertise" and "stimulate new approaches to securing improvements" for safeguarding services outside "traditional hierarchies", the document says...

Neoliberalism is cancer to public service.
Ahh yes, Gove. Regarded as a fucking joke from reception teachers through to university professors, and any age groups or education stages that I might have missed inbetween, not to mention the students. There's absolutely no way that putting profit into child protection will end badly, right? It worked just so well for the train network, jobcentre and such, didn't it? It's totally not like our train service is one of the worst in Europe and the contractors used for benefits sanction people willy nilly for ridiculous reasons, such as because you were at a job interview when you were meant to be at a jobcentre interview...
What could possibly go wrong? :v:
Sorry we can't help anymore kids this quarter, we have to look out for our bottom line.

We could make it into a sort of involuntary investment bank. All children taken or otherwise involved with the service will be charged a fee they must repay at adulthood, regardless of justification for it. There will be interest, of course.
It's genius.
Good lord, NO.

You can always go with the proven way of feeding children with children. It's killing two birds with one stone and what's the most beautiful about it is, that the longer you do it, the more efficient it becomes, and eventually the problem is gone entirely.

Do explain how.
Absolutely fucking not, this is literally the worst suggestion I have ever heard. It's like saying "I think we should let Mr. Hitler here take care of these jews"
The private prison system has done a great job, kids should be next! Bread and water for them, and not freshly baked bread either, and the water will be reclaimed wastewater.
Remove Gove please.
He is the most punchable and honestly everything he does he deserves it.
G4S only fucked up the Olympics security and then committed fraud with it's tagging services, so third time's the charm, right?

If they do end up privatizing it and giving contracts to G4S, they might as well go the whole hog get a baboon to do the job instead. It'd probably be more effective, and behave a lot better towards other people.

Private prisons.
after what the american child protective services did to my family, i can't imagine what the fuck nightmare it will be like once a private company does it

Even the concept sounds like a disaster waiting to happen, I wouldn't want to know the execution if it went through.

Way, way, way more harm.
My father was in care and he said it was fucking terrible, granted it was a long time ago, but back then it was council run.
You have seen what happens in Private Care Homes for the elderly, while I know it may not happen straight away, bad things will happen if they turn over CPS to private companies.

but muh free market/capitalism/profits/etc and etc.
[sp]its kinda scary that someone actually thinks this is a good idea[/sp]

I don't think there is a "how". Neocons always use buzzwords like "innovation" and "competition" and "efficiency", but what they really mean is "If I could monopolize that, I'd make some good money".
