Hi, My computer is quite outdated now and I'm planning on upgrading it in the next 2-3 months. My current build is: Corsair 6GB (3x2GB) DDR3 1600 Corsair 750W 750HXUK MODULAR Intel Core i5 750 2..66ghz 1TB SAMSUNG HD103SJ SATA F3 2TB SAMSUNG HD103SJ SATA F3 GBYTE GA-P55A-UD4 USB3 MOBO 1GB XFX HD5870 I'd like to be able to play modern games (BF4, GTA5, ARMA3 etc) all on high or higher if possible, I'd like to know the total cost of the upgrade too so I can plan my savings from work. I've got the Antec 300 case as well.
If I were you, I would just buy a new graphics cards. Your specifications really aren't all that bad. Consider a 7970 if you have the money for it.

I forgot to note, I'm only running 4GB of RAM because with my MOBO only two of the four slots can be used at the same time, I do need more RAM. With the 7950/70s work with my MOBO? The Ram will work fine as well.
Bumbing my old thread so I don't have to make a new one, I'm going to be upgrading my RAM/GFX in the next couple of weeks (thanks for the advise btw), I was wondering, if I wanted to upgrade my CPU with my current board, what could I go for?
If you heading for gaming just get a dual core with 3 Ghz atleast. Graphic card is the most important in a gamer PC. Try Google the CPU in medion Akoya e4065. It's a quad core 3.2 GHz fairly cheap. I7 is best however
Your i5 is solid. If you can't upgrade both CPU and Mobo, then don't. That socket has been out of production long enough that it's harder to find them, and the top level ones that would actually be an upgrade are at a premium I think. Those intels were made at a point in time that I did not keep up with components at all, but if you can overclock it I'd suggest getting a cooler master 212 EVO and pumping it up for a bit more power. You can also carry that 212 over to whatever your next build will be.

A quad core with 3.5GHz can easily outperform an eight core with 5.0 GHz (4670 vs 9590, the 9590 is a horrible processor, much more expensive, ridiculous TDP, and slower). Also the best CPU for gaming is an i5, not an i7. To the OP: the same upgrade advice doesn't apply. The 7970/7950 is no longer the best choice in upgrade, nor is that RAM necessarily. Give us a budget, and we'll give you new upgrade advice (this is for 1080p resolution right?).
Sorry to bump this, finally got around to getting money sorted. Budget is £500
Bump
http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/398LQ I'd get this if I were you. A touch overkill for 1080p, but it should delay another GPU upgrade nicely. Also if I were you I'd look at a CPU/Mobo upgrade when Broadwell gets released. You should still be good for now, but when 5th gen gets released I'd say it would be a good time to upgrade those.
I'm more leaning towards an ATI card over Nvidia, how much will my CPU bottleneck a newer card like the 780? [editline]14th March 2014[/editline] What if I swapped out the 780 for the R9? http://www.scan.co.uk/products/4gb-msi-radeon-r9-290x-pci-e Would that work with my MOBO/CPU?
Considering going all out and just doing a new build how is this? Will it all fit in my case? - Antec 300
It'll fit, but you really only need 8 gigs of RAM. And the cpu isn't compatible with the motherboard. Get a 4670k. [editline]14th March 2014[/editline] Also everything else looks top notch
Cheers levelog, I'll switch the CPU out now. If there was a better case to get, for cooling and looked good, what would it be? Where my PCs located it gets a tad warm after awhile
Most ~$50 cases come with 2 fans, one intake and one exhaust. You'll need to buy a 3rd fan, either a 200mm and put it int he front if it fits and move the front to the side, or just buy another 120 on the side. You can always look for a case that comes with more fans from stock though, but most cases will literally be identical. imo more intake than exhaust is what you want. Just make sure to put a filter on the side fan so your case doesn't get dusty. Also if your cpu cooler can be placed to face the roof to exhaust out the top that's better too, though most will be placed to face the back exhaust fan.
