• Tesla Model S P100D Ludicrous+ achieves record 2.28-second 0-60 mph and 10.5-sec 1/4 mile
With the introduction of the P100D with Ludicrous mode, Tesla’s Model S officially became a ’10-second-car’ with a 0 to 60 mph acceleration in 2.5 seconds. But the company kept improving on the software and was able to shave just over a tenth of a second with a software upgrade that has been referred to as ‘Ludicrous+’ mode. Now Motor Trend tested the latest version of the Tesla Model S P100D with the ‘Ludicrous+’ mode and claims two new records: 0-60 mph in 2.28 seconds and quarter-mile in 10.5 seconds. ... We are talking about a stock vehicle here. There’s been talk about a stripped-down Model S P100D accelerating from 0 to 60 mph in 2.0 or 2.1 seconds, but the vehicle tested by Motor Trend wasn’t modified.
https://electrek.co/2017/02/07/tesla-model-s-p100d-ludicrous-0-60-mph-motor-trend-test/
Those first second Gs. How long until Tesla drivers have to start using G-suits.
Those first second Gs. How long until Tesla drivers have to start using G-suits.
I mean 0 to 60 in 2.5 seconds is only slightly over 1G. Still impressive tho.
I mean 0 to 60 in 2.5 seconds is only slightly over 1G. Still impressive tho.
It's not completely linear though: [t]https://electrek.files.wordpress.com/2017/02/screen-shot-2017-02-07-at-7-28-35-am-e1486470671256.png?w=1500&h=0#038;h=497[/t]
I mean 0 to 60 in 2.5 seconds is only slightly over 1G. Still impressive tho.
That's pretty insane considering your average road car would struggle to top ~0.4Gs accelerating flat out.
That's pretty insane considering your average road car would struggle to top ~0.4Gs accelerating flat out.
My car pulls 0.2 :v:
Okay... Now how about auto pilot updates and improved safety features? And affordability
Okay... Now how about auto pilot updates and improved safety features? And affordability
they are working on it also the model S is literally the safest car around
It's not completely linear though: [t]https://electrek.files.wordpress.com/2017/02/screen-shot-2017-02-07-at-7-28-35-am-e1486470671256.png?w=1500&h=0#038;h=497[/t]
Ah, I stand corrected. 1.5Gs for 0.9 seconds is the maximum G force.
So this thing is a literal street rocket?
So this thing is a literal street rocket?
Nah, more like a light roller coaster (Typical roller coaster Gs scale around 1.5 to 4.5). Still the zippiest thing on the road tho.
Okay... Now how about auto pilot updates and improved safety features? And affordability
All the new ones got fully autonomous hardware on them. They just want to roll out the software step by step again so that they don't make a dangerous error. Which is why the new ones have less autopilot features right now than the old ones did. Last I heard, a new update was coming soon.

And then some guy at jalopnik goes "Who cares? 0-60 times only matters to Internal Combustion Cars." http://jalopnik.com/the-electric-car-0-60-obsession-is-stupid-and-useless-a-1791378592

http://jalopnik.com/the-electric-car-0-60-obsession-is-stupid-and-useless-a-1791378592
Well electric cars have significant advantages in the 0-100km/h sprint over ICE cars, such as instant torque and no delays due to gear shifting or clutch actuation, that it kind of makes sense to not compare the two in that test. Just like how it's very unfair on electric cars to compare them with ICE cars in say a 100-200km/h sprint; the electric car would get flogged most of the time. But 0-100km/h tests are a wank anyways, regardless of the engine. If the car can do it in under 8 seconds, it's fast. End of story. I've never bought a car based on how fast it can go from 0-100km/h, because that is something that I (nor most people) would never need to do. [editline]8th February 2017[/editline] ... even though my car does it in seven seconds lmao.
It's not fair to compare two different car power trains in an area where one always comes up short.
Tesla Roadster 2 is gonna be the fastest accelerating car ever.
Tesla Roadster 2 is gonna be the fastest accelerating car ever.
Well, of cars accessible to normal humans anyways
"does an autopilot car choose to run over the surgeon or the small child??"
I know I'm probably missing the point of this post, but what does the autopilot actually do in situations of questionable morality like this?
I know I'm probably missing the point of this post, but what does the autopilot actually do in situations of questionable morality like this?
I reckon it slams on the brakes
I know I'm probably missing the point of this post, but what does the autopilot actually do in situations of questionable morality like this?
These situations are so stupid. They simply won't happen. If you're driving at the speed limit, there should be no reason an instant reaction + perfect threshold braking won't be enough to avoid an accident, or at least lose enough speed that impact will be non lethal. In any case the car won't have to choose. Just apply brakes and whatever happens happens.
I know I'm probably missing the point of this post, but what does the autopilot actually do in situations of questionable morality like this?
It brakes and tries to avoid either, if it can't it can't. It doesn't spend time trying to analyse the people it's about to crash into.
I know I'm probably missing the point of this post, but what does the autopilot actually do in situations of questionable morality like this?
I, for one, cannot see through parked cars on the side of the road where a kid is about to run out.. whereas at least a Tesla can. Combine that with the autopilot and the brakes and you are both preemptive and minimizing the chance of harm. Also, as I've seen above, bringing up 'Trolley-cart' style ethical dilemmas as an argument against autonomous vehicles is myopic at best. In a rational sense it gives autonomous vehicles a better argument given that computers can impartially interpret more information about its complete surroundings in a shorter periods of time (provided there are adequate sensors/data points).

Especially when the options are run over pedestrians or slam into a wall harming/killing the occupants. The wall is the safest option? Cars are designed to take frontal impacts, people are not.
Tesla Roadster 2 is gonna be the fastest accelerating car ever.
Tesla Top Fuel dragster when?
I know I'm probably missing the point of this post, but what does the autopilot actually do in situations of questionable morality like this?
It doesn't get into questionable situations if its working properly. If it's not working properly, the vehicle probably wont' be making these kinds of decisions anyway.
I test drove a Model S P85D and the acceleration on that was absolutely insane. Gave me chills and left me struggling for words!
