Sok Thoeun, a 40-year-old man from Batt-ambang, Cambodia, is being pursued by authorities after reportedly beating and chaining his 13-year-old son, Sok Khorn, to a pole for playing video games at an Internet cafe instead of going to school, the Phnom Penh Post reports.
When the father found his son, the Post reports he began beating his son "brutally," and then shackled him.
"As well as beating his son, he put chains around the boy's neck and legs and locked him to a power pole on a nearby street in the village, in order to show [his son] to the public," deputy provincial police chief Colonel Cheth Vanny told the paper.
The Bangkok Post reports police got a locksmith to free the child, but by that time his father had returned to work as a motorbike taxi driver, and eventually fled the scene.
"He is still on the run," the official told the paper. "This kind of torture is not acceptable."
AFB reports the man is now wanted on child abuse charges.

What a douchebag. Sure, restrict your son from going to school for him not wanting to go, because taking him to school just doesn't make sense anymore.
That's not acceptable.
Edit: If you want to punish your son, you shouldn't do it on a physical level.
This is just so disproportionate.
I can't even imagine what he'd do to his son if he made a real serious mistake.
Put him away from any family, god.
Great parent! Totally not going to make that kid turn into a raging lunatic on how good of an influence he is!
seriously, why? There's strict, and then there's being stupid.
Well, if I had a child, I'd definitely kick their ass for skipping school and going to an internet café instead, but chaning to a pole? Really?
shouldn't beat your son brutally, but physical punishment may work. Paddle them, or give them extra work to do in the yard etc. Or ask the teachers to give him extra work. stuff like that would be better.
what happened to consoling with your kids, loving them and helping them through
instead of chaining children to poles, appreciate them and ask why they dont want to go to school out of concern for their well-being; maybe then they wont turn into a suicidal depressed accountant when they get to 30
and to the guy above me who suggested paddling, i seriously hope you're joking.
If my son did skip, i would force him to do more chores and lower/take his allowance away, not cahin him up and beat the shit out of him.

EDIT: But not Gezá.
This is full on child abuse.

I think you should try arguing your point instead of complaining about how much of FP disagrees with you. Just a thought.

I think your dad should beat you until your less liberal.
I always love reading FP's parenting 'advice' in threads like this.

You know your father is abusive when he names you Sock Corn.
The question is where the crap did this dad get these shackles? I know a normal store wouldn't sell these.

There are these incredibly exotic things called 'chains' and 'padlocks' which can sometimes be found in the east...
Well at least one part of it was acceptable by your standards.
You know, "kicking their ass" does not necessarily mean "beating senselessly".

Or in BDSM basements

'wow disciplining a child with work and chores is fucking hardcore man'
I think kids should be punished with chores and work its a lot better than chaining, if I didn't make that clear
wow disciplining a child with work and chores is fucking hardcore man
It's a lot more productive than beating them and leaving them with no clue as to why the fuck
