Did they already say that they want cawadooy audience?
I don't see a problem with this, honestly. All the player characters involved are well acquainted with the monsters at hand, so it'd make sense that they're becoming less cautious and more aggressive/actiony as they know more about the things they are facing.
I just want another survival horror adventure with the crushing lonely eerie athmosphere of the classic ones.
Doesn't matter what they say, I'll always be seeing a woman giving head to a giraffe.
Resident Evil 4 was perfect, why do people like that have to ruin things..
Even with the more action-based route, RE5 and Operation Raccoon City are being met with less-than-excellent applause here in the States, the latter bombing in several review sites (albeit a moderate amount of people enjoy the game, reviews aside). I'm not sure if folks want survival-horror, but more action may not be the answer either.
I hope nobody is surpired, it was clear since the release of RE4 back in 2005.
Good. Either go one way or go the other, just please no more action focused games without the ability of moving and shooting (then again that shouldn't be in the game even if they reversed back to the old style). Before someone says "But then it'll be run and gun!!", no it won't (or maybe it will if they want, but it's not a must just because you can move and shoot). Run and gun is when you can actually run and gun with precision. Giving the ability to walk while shooting (or running, but with horrible accuracy) won't make it run and gun (not to mention there are a lot of other things playing into that, like the availability of ammo).
Ugh. If they mean in the style of Resident Evil 5, I only see bad things in the future. Pure action just doesn't suit me for Resident Evil, Resident Evil 4 was a perfect balance of both genres. Revelations also did a pretty good job at it too, the only negative thing I can think of at the top of my head were the transitions in Revelations. But if they're just trying to make future games a certain way just to "appeal" to a Western audience, it sounds like it's going to end up with a lack of quality.
Didn't need to read the article as to why they need to. It's capcom, micheal bay 24/7
Resident Evil needs to continue down action path, says Capcom producer
No it doesn't, assholes.
While I don't think the inclusion of more action-oriented gameplay is a bad thing (as drunkenmoose said, most of the cast are familiar with the horrors so it would only make sense), I wouldn't mind seeing a return to the series' roots. But shit, Leon's in a large city full of zombies on his own without much in the way of backup, and in one instance in the trailer he was using an axe to kill a zombie. Could just be that I'm taking it out of context (i.e. it's really a scripted event or cinematic or whatever) but I'd imagine that there'd be more in the way of horror there than Chris' war in China, or the merc's fisticuffs.
It also had a good balance of horror and suspense (Right-hand man, multiple-plaga half frozen big-mouth assholes)
but in all seriousness, was it ever really scary? the RE series is horror-themed, not horror. there's a difference. it's campy and absurd, not frightening. people keep acting like action is some huge departure for RE but it's always been a series about supermen doing backflips away from fire-shooting mutants
The first three were pretty scary. I remember when I was opening that one door in RE3 and a fucking zombie popped out. Scared the shit out of me as a kid.
R.I.P Resident Evil then.
The first three were pretty scary. I remember when I was opening that one door in RE3 and a fucking zombie popped out. I think in the remake its a crimson head instead

This actually makes me worry about Resident Evil 6. In the announcement trailer's gameplay segments, Leon seemed to have more series-traditional, slower-paced horror, whereas Chris essentially looked like a cover-based shooter (and this isn't even counting the guy bare-hand curbstomping B.O.W.s); essentially appealing to multiple player demographics like Revelations did. This announcement makes me think they might change that. He did say it wouldn't stray too far from previous titles, though, so maybe not.

And so another series dies.
And so another series dies.
More like evolves. Shit can you really say you'd like 6 games made in the same style as RE1-Code Veronica? Resident Evil 4 would simply not have worked if it had. I and thousands of others loved RE4 despite its more action-oriented gameplay. Despite that though, the atmosphere was creepy enough to retain a modicum of horror element to it. Resident Evil 5 on the other did away with all pretenses to horror and ended up more sci-fi/action creature-feature, the fact that it included some pretty poorly implemented co-op (and that fucking inventory) didn't help either. To continue banging the point home; Resident Evil 6 looks like it'll cater to both the horror side of things with Leon's journey through Tall Oaks, and the action side with Chris, as well as opening up a potentially all-new gameplay mechanism with Mr. Merc's side of things. I can't understand for the life of me why some people feel that this diversity is a bad thing, or that the departure from survival-horror is so unexpected when - really now - the RE series inspires only the odd jump scare at best.
What I'm worried more is the length of each segment. While it maximizes profit by catering to both audiences, it reduces fun for them since the campaigns will most likely be 1/3 compared to a full game.
Didn't they also say they where trying to go back to the horror that made RE so appealing to begin with? Action paths will not do this series justice. They really need to go back to the original formula that made RE so awesome. With all the high end consoles it shouldn't be an issue to create such a horrifying environment. I liked RE5, but it wasn't that great. It was far to much of a shooter to be really all that enjoyable. I'll take a compromise, they can include the action gameplay mechanics they want. As long as it isn't over done "press x to dodge this", and includes a lot of horror and puzzles. I would also like to see a remake of the original 3 or maybe a game dedicated to that type of gameplay.
I'm fine with this, I enjoyed resident evil 4 but I hated resident evil 5. RE6 looks promising though
Perhaps make future Resident Evils a hybrid, as a compromise. Past Resident Evils have offered the ability to play the campaign as different characters. Why not make an action packed campaign. Then make a parallel, intertwining campaign that's more scary and "traditional."
