First of all, I'm so ignorant about this kind of thing, that this thread made me think that the advice given was true (only for a second, I swear!) http://www.facepunch.com/threads/1153792 Now, I'm about 6' 1 6' 2 or so, and around 300 lbs. I always hate stating this, because people always think that "OH THREE HUNDRUD PUNDS HE MUHST BE FAT DERP" when in actual reality, I have huge ass calves (genetics :D) and I'm Big boned (seriously, no excuse broskis) I want to start working out. I'm thinking about getting a membership to my local gym and getting right to it. It's a basic gym, track, weights, lifting thingies, benches, dreadmills, bikes, that kind of thing. I'm either getting a gym membership in February (after exams D:) or for my birthday (Early March, yay 18!), but I'd rather get it sooner or later because grad is coming up and I want to be supar buf for teh laydeez n sheeit. So, here goes. I would like to work on getting rid of stomach fat, and my thighs could always use some work (the fat lumps of fat they are D:<, stupid compooter chair legs) and I also want to improve my cardiovascular performance. I'm not so sure on whether I want to go for strength or endurance lifting (I'm going on the limited Phys Ed knowledge that was given to me, so I apologize if I offend anyone by using the wrong terms) but I'm leaning towards endurance because I'm probably going to be working long hours after school working construction or something for money for Uni. My diet sucks, I'm not afraid to admit. For example, I just had a Big Mac, Fries, a Coke, and a couple drumsticks from KFC :O That's not usually what I have, I kind of pigged out for supper tonight ha, but I usually eat pretty healthy to keep a low(er) weight, although I probably gained almost 5 pounds from eating that shit and I feel like my face is a BP nightmare in terms of oil. I also don't want to change my diet DRASTICALLY and pull a Rocky and eat raw eggs for breakfast everyday. But from what I've read, lots of protein is good, and I LOOOOOOOVE my meat <3 so it shouldn't be a problem. I'm also hoping this will increase my confidence because right now it's taken about 2 months for me to realize the simple fact that not everyone out there is so picky and observant of others (like I am). I've only gone on one date, and that was it. Not too sure what else to add, but hopefully I can get some good resources or knowledge. Thanks guys, and once again, I apologize if I sound like a crazy with my terms or stupidity. What can you reccomend in terms of resources or workouts I can do? All I can type for now because the kraken has awoken in my anus and I must heed its calling. PS: Hopefully I can lose a fair amount of weight and get to know you guys better :D
we get these threads every day, gets kind annoying when no one can read the first few topics saying "WANNA LOSE FAT AND GET ARNULD MUSELL PLZ" Basically: 1. Good diet 2. Exercise 3. Post pics because we're homo Quit icky fast food, eat healthy crap. Especially soda drinks and your crummy McDonalds. Do some cardio, running and biking. Sports if you're in to them. If you get cravings to eat fucky food, take sips of water instead, and find something else to occupy your time like video games. If you stay motivated, you'll see results.
I highly, HIGHLY recommend starting a Strength program, such as SS (Starting Strength) or Stronglifts 5x5. I'm currently doing SL 5x5 and it's a solid program, the website has a mass of valuable information as well.

I can realize that this kind of thread is common and it would be annoying for others... Yeah, I figured that those first 2 things would be the most obvious answers, kind of obvious, heh. Not too sure about the pictures though. :P No fast food (or VERY VERY little of it) and I'm already on the road to eating healthy things like actual cooked suppers with protein and veggies and stuffs. I'm not really that into sports, and I can't join anything where I live right now that's sporty because they're either almost at the end of the league, or done for the year. I assume the water drinking is to induce a habit? Instead of eating food, drink water and it will go away? Kind of like replacing smoking with something else like eating candy (which is bad :D) I'm not one for running, but I guess I shall get into it more. Snowy and Icey sidewalks, but there is a Gym for that. Once spring/summer comes, I'll break out the bike and do a load of biking. Would a Semi-Weekly workout thread update thing in this forum section work? I'm just not finding the motivation to, even though I want to work out. There's nothing out there that makes me want to think "Man, I HAVE to work out today, and get into the habit of doing it!" I guess women would be a good reason, but I haven't had much luck with them so mergh. I'm thinking the forum updates would be good because if I don't do it, I'll be ridiculed by people! I don't really have friends that work out, (I'm in more of the "smart" people crowd who take all the smart courses so they don't have time to work out!!! lie) so they wouldn't really care. Look. I'm not trying to give you my life story here, but damn it, it's hard not to! D: I looked at the sticky, but I'm not too sure what to follow :P. Which one would be the best for me? I assume either 1) or 3) because I'm not a skinny fuck. Quick question before I click submit, does working out help acne at all? I assume the sweat would push all the bad stuffs out of your pores... You think so? Also, forgot to add - how often should I start working out per week? 3 or so times per week? Maybe more?
all these words that i dont give a fuck to read about. add me on steam and ill be ur bff and make u swole and make all the girls love u because swoleness is more important than personality
Hold on... >You weight 300 lbs. >You have huge ass calves >Because of genetics Anyway. Solid gym program (SS) + some some cardio. No stat bike or treadmill, just go run outside. And check the couch to 5k program. And listen to the guy above.
Main thing you going to be wanting to do is cardio, that, in my opinion, is the only efficient method of universal weight loss, it will do favors for your heart and lungs as well. I recommend start off something that you can commit to, if you jump into and do a strict routine to start with you won't stick to it, you will get tired after a week or so and then give up. Balanced Diet. Cardio. Water. Rest. Do running/treadmill until you reach your burning point, where you feel the burn, till where you cannot run any further, then rehydrate and walk off your body (a cooldown is crucial to get rid of acid buildup in your muscles), shower, rest, make your own routine, the only way you will loose weight is if you keep your routine as then your body will adapt to the change in conditions and begin to morph to the new conditions you've set, it will burn fat and build muscle. [editline]12th January 2012[/editline] Would also recommend high tempo songs as well, you will defo need music to accompany your exercise. Or you could buy Kinetic or Just Dance 3 or something and play that instead of your current video games etc.

I'm probably going to start running once Spring rolls around, and the snow melts, as I've slipped and fallen on my ass 4 times walking home today. The sidewalks are covered in ice covered in snow! D: The couch to 5k plan sounds good from what I'm reading right now :) I think I shall give it a shot when I start working out :) Thanks for the info guys, I'll give you updates if you want later on :P
Well even though running would grow muscle (it doesn't), top maraton runners would still be skeletons for two reasons. 1. Low bodyweight = high efficiency, more speed for the same effort. 2. Training burns a fuckton of calories. It may be hard to eat enough to maintain weight. I don't even have appetite after long running, I just eat because I know I should.
Meant strengthen muscle, forgot how anal people are on these forums.
Meant strengthen muscle, forgot how anal people are on these forums.
And wrong again. Running 10km won't make you squat 100kg
And wrong again. Running 10km won't make you squat 100kg
Tones/Strengthen, running doesnt build muscle, I cleared that up, it tones your muscle, it doesn't make you squat as your not gaining muscle your enforcing muscle already in place as your constantly tearing and rebuilding the muscles from running with your bodies protein. Why the fuck are people so bitchy on these forums? You got something wrong, it can never be; 'your wrong because...', its always so sarcastic remark etc someones wrong, fair enough, but being a total jackass in life aint going to get you anywhere.
Firstly, don't ever use the word tone again. Secondly, I have no fucking idea what you just said, but running doesn't help with gaining Strength (aka CNS adaption) at all. It 'builds' endurance, which is a completely different thing and has nothing to do with strength. and finally,
Why the fuck are people so bitchy on these forums? Firstly, you where like 'LMAO NO' and then 'Thanks for proving my point' and then the sarcastic images and then 'Wrong Again' and then... you get the point, you just sound like a real pain in the ass, you can't have a discussion/argument with people without someone giving some childish backhand comment through a computer screen, someone knows more/less than another and its a crime that needs to punished with unwitty remarks. I studied Physical Education, like 4 years ago, I know the body types, lessons and all we did was fuck around and play football anyway, but seriously? bottom line? cardio>

Not really, I live in the UK we play 'soccer' I was a starting player, still play and I don't know as much as you do about it because I chose to invest my time more wisely into subjects that would give me a better chance in succeeding in life. Also - if you ask most footballers they wouldn't be able to answer most of the questions you would ask and why are you always backing him up Casnus? Are you his sidekick? Alt account?
