FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - Authorities raided a popular veterinary clinic Tuesday morning after a family’s shocking discovery that their pet that they thought was euthanized was kept alive.
The family alleges that a veterinarian at the Camp Bowie Animal Clinic kept their dog, Sid, alive for six months. Sid’s owner, Marian Harris said she gave Dr. Lou Tierce permission to put the four-year-old Leonberger down last October due to health problems. But eight days ago, Harris received a disturbing phone call from a former employee of the animal clinic. The employee told her that Sid was still alive, imprisoned in a cage.
“The betrayal is so incredibly intense that nothing you have prepares you for the emotions. There’s anger, there’s joy that you have your dog back, there’s betrayal of this intense trust. And so it’s just really hard to camp on one particular emotion,” said Harris.
Reports are saying the vet was taking blood from the dog and using it for transfusions and whatever the doctor felt like at the time, dog is currently back at home healthy again but extremely scared of people now.

i was expecting it to be one of those "we're putting down dogs because there's no space" cases and the vet would be hailed a hero
considerably mistaken
Uh so they were having him put down due to health problems, but now he's healthy? Sounds like the vet did a good thing even if he wasn't meant to do it. Saved the dog's life and potentially others too by taking his blood.
No, the vet lied when he said the dog needed to be put down.

Fair enough, that wasn't really made clear in the article.

Looked pretty clear in the article to me, the title is what was misleading.

'Marian Harris said she gave Dr. Lou Tierce permission to put the four-year-old Leonberger down last October due to health problems.'
That doesn't say to me the vet told her to have him put down. I misunderstood it.
Wow, this is some saturday morning cartoon villain bullshit.

that is fucked up
Damn, what a sick human being : (
Blood harvesting, that's disgusting.
Here is what confuses me:
Why?
Yes, he wanted a dog for transfusions, but if that is all he wanted, why not just get a shelter dog? A dog nobody is going to notice.
It is fucked up either way, obviously, but in terms of getting caught doesn't it make more sense to get a stray? Why go through the trouble of taking some family's dog?

I'm guessing the family's dog is known to have no bloodborne diseases and a certain blood type?
This contributed to ruining my day. The thought of dealing with the emotion of having lost your pet, and finding out it had been kept away from you that whole time.
This man needs some nice prison time.
Some really nice long time to think about what the fuck he has done.
