BioWare has confirmed that the next Mass Effect will use a version of DICE’s Frostbite engine. In a blog post on BioWare’s official site, BioWare Montreal studio director Yanick Roy noted that the game “will be built with the amazing technology of Frostbite as its foundation” and that it will be “enhanced by many of the systems that the Dragon Age III team has already spent a lot of time building.”
It’s worth noting that Roy doesn’t mention Frostbite 2 specifically, suggesting that this could be a next generation version of the engine. Roy also mentioned that the game “will be very respectful of the heritage built over the course of the first three games,” but that “with the original trilogy now concluded and the switch over to a new engine, we are exploring new directions, both on the gameplay and story fronts.” However, “you can still expect the pillars the franchise is known for to be fully intact, including diverse alien races, a huge galaxy to explore, and of course rich, cinematic storytelling.”
Roy added that Casey Hudson will remain executive producer, “but he will have a Project Director under him, working in Montreal, leading our development team and making day-to-day decisions for the game.” With the “core” of the team in place, Roy writes that “the next step for us is to have the BioWare Montreal studio grow at an accelerated pace over the next year as we build a team large enough to support the production of what we know is going to be an amazing game in the franchise.” As such, BioWare Montreal is currently hiring for positions including artists, designers, animators, programmers and a development manager.
Last week, Hudson said the next Mass Effect is in the “early stages” of production and asked what fans would like to see included. Previously, BioWare hinted that the game will go somewhere new and said it won’t star a character similar to Shepard.
Nice choice of engine bioware, totally not as bad as unreal!!!
Still not interested. It simply won't be Mass Effect to me without Shepard and his crew.
i think unreal engine should be given a rest, at least until UE4 comes around
Honestly, Frostbite ain't that bad. High definition garrus penis
Hopefully they don't mess it up massively like ME3
Oh also there's going to be a mass effect 4
tbh I'm fine with more games taking place in the ME universe but calling it Mass Effect when it's not part of the self-contained trilogy really burns my balls

Put some icyhot on them then.
I'm glad they're not sticking with Shepard and his crew. I wouldn't want Mass Effect 4 to fuck up the amazing memories I have of my games with him, garrus and all of 'em. Time for him to rest.
I still love the Mass Effect universe and it's so huge there's so much possibilities for the developpers I just can't not be eager to see what this 4th will look like.
They should base it off the First Contact War
Wait what, there's a Mass Effect 4? Wat
I thought 3 finished off the story, albeit badly.
Man, Frostbite 2 in space...
meh.
bahahahah!!
They should base it off the First Contact War
Seriously, people always say this without realizing the First Contact War was basically a few skirmishes and then nothing. It was hardly a war, more like a couple of isolated conflicts. In other words: A game about the First Contact War would be short and shit.
Why the hell are you guys giving this so much flak?
They should base it off the First Contact War
We've been through this elsewhere. The First Contact War was boring as shit and would not make a game.
1) Humans find relay, attempt to activate.
2) Turians find humans, attack to stop reactivation of relay.
3) Humans retaliate en masse, pissing turians off.
4) Turians mobilize for all-out war, Council intervenes, problem solved.

Many people are still disappointed with how Mass Effect 3 turned out and they're less trusting of Bioware as a result. I can sympathize, even though I think ME3 was generally awesome.
i think unreal engine should be given a rest, at least until UE4 comes around
IMO UE3 looks fine and it's one of the most optimized engines. I have no problem keeping it until the next generation is in full bloom.
Frostbite 2 is awesome, but given ME3's horrible ending I'd rather wait a week for people to finish it before I buy it.
I think a people don't want another mass effect due to a few points, if they go forward they will basically be saying nothing you did in mass effect matters due to they would have to set up a "canon" ending to mass effect 3. However if they go back there will be almost nothing interesting, no major conflicts displayed based on what is known, or no humans involved at all.
So the only logical direction I can think of that wouldn't fuck over(saying they played the game wrong and made the improper choice) as much people and would allow for flexibility would be a reboot of the series.

The should recon it into a proper first contact war: a huge all out fight, with the humans about to lose in the end when the rest of the council forces the Turians to stop.
Kinda how the Earth-Minbari war went down.

I'm sorry, but this is a terrible idea and would truly fit the definition of "milking the franchise." The First Contact war being a minor skirmish actually makes sense in the lore, and explains why the humans and turians aren't always at each other's throats.
The Mass Effect universe is MASSIVE, and there are a ton of potential story arcs you could use that would not destroy established canon:
- The Geth war and the eventual exile of the Quarian people.
- The Krogan rebellion and the Rachni wars.
- Garrus and his squad on Omega between ME1 and ME2
- The final days of the Prothean empire.
- Cerberus: there's potentially some traction here.
And that's just some of the stuff we know about, nevermind what could be in the expanses of the galactic history.
Not to mention the endless possibilities of a SPECTRE unit that's basically under the table, behind the curtains force.
Anderson's adventures would be great.

Call of Duty's campaigns take place over the course of 3-4 days typically.
Still not interested. It simply won't be Mass Effect to me without Shepard and his crew.
I understand what you're saying, but that's retarded
why deny the Mass Effect universe
your loss
Call of Duty's campaigns take place over the course of 3-4 days typically.
Yeah, but the Call of Duty campaigns are high-octane, highly concentrated affairs. That style of gameplay/storytelling doesn't lend itself to an action-RPG, nor the detail in character and story that the Mass Effect series is (generally) known for.

Were talking about space engagements here.
That's like waiting a ton and then a few people dying from blasts.
Looks like I'll be needing an upgrade for this, rip my little 9800. You served me well.
Instead of Battlefield 2143, we'll get Battlefield:Mass Effect 4
I guess there's no going back to how the first played is there
They could always have it take place during the Reaper War.

The first game had terrible gameplay.
