I'm surprised if anyone reads this thread because it's titled "Grammar Question" sounds fun right?
Anyways my question is how would i lead onto another sentence with this quote.
“They knew very well why he hadn’t: because of the enormity of the knife descending and cutting into living flesh; because of the unbearable blood.” (Golding 31) <---- would there be a period after the (Golding 31) then to the next sentence? Or would the sentence just start after the parenthesis? Any help is appreciated.
Probably just continues of without a period, not 100% sure, i dont really listen in English Classes
herfderf.
i usually put a period after the parenthesis.
I'm an English prof.
For MLA, the period goes after the parenthesis and NOT after blood.
unbearable blood” (Golding 31).
100% positive.

Ah. Thanks.
If you're interested, I use the Simon & Schuster Handbook for Writers ( http://www.amazon.ca/Schuster-Handbook-Writers-Canadian-MyCanadianCompLab/dp/0138003645 ) though I don't really pay attention to grammar that much online. :P
I am pretty sure it comes in other international editions. Its a great book.
