• Apple Warranty after installing 3rd party stuff in MacBook

I want to install a kit to convert my Superdrive bay into a 2nd hard drive bay, using this kit and this HDD. I've checked with the company and it's all compatible with my MacBook. Thing is, would Apple still honour the warranty? Obviously they wouldn't give me a warranty if the drive converter kit or the HDD went bad, but would they still cover the rest of the MacBook? Or would it work (if I had to take it in for repairs) if I just put the Superdrive back in before returning it to them? Would they know? Would they care if I left the converter kit and 2nd hard drive in there? Cheers. Oh also, if it makes any difference, I've got 3 year applecare and bought the MacBook through my Uni's education discount.
Practical advice: if you break a sticker seal when installing, then they'll tell. Anyway, quoting from the AppleCare terms:
4.1 Hardware Service. The Plan does not apply to: (i) Installation, removal or disposal of the Covered Equipment, or the provision of equipment while the Covered Equipment is being serviced; (ii) Damage caused by (a) a product that is not the Covered Equipment (b) accident, abuse, misuse, liquid contact, fire, earthquake or other external cause, (c) operating the Covered Equipment outside the permitted or intended uses described by the manufacturer, or (d) service (including upgrades and expansions) performed by anyone who is not a representative of Apple or an Apple Authorized Service Provider (“AASP”); (iii) Covered Equipment with a serial number that has been altered, defaced or removed, or has been modified to alter its functionality or capability without the written permission of the manufacturer; (iv) Covered Equipment that has been lost or stolen. This Plan only covers Covered Equipment that is returned to Apple in its entirety; (v) Cosmetic damage to the Covered Equipment including but not limited to scratches, dents and broken plastic on ports; (vi) Consumable parts, such as batteries, except in respect of battery coverage under APP for iPod or unless failure has occurred due to a defect in materials and workmanship; (vii) Preventative maintenance on the Covered Equipment; or (viii) Defects caused by normal wear and tear or otherwise due to normal aging of the product.
So no.
Shit. That sucks. Thanks for the info though.
