''London Has Fallen'' pirates targeted with lawsuits and automated $300 'fines'
Last week hundreds of thousands of people downloaded a copy of the blockbuster "London Has Fallen," and some of these pirates are in for a nasty surprise. To recoup some of the losses, the makers are sending automated $300 'fines' to those who get caught. In addition, over a thousand U.S. citizens have been sued.
Many Hollywood insiders see online piracy as a major threat, but only very few are willing to target file-sharers with lawsuits or settlement demands.
Millennium Films and LHF Productions, two companies behind the blockbuster “London Has Fallen” have no problem crossing this line.
I'm sure that'll totally stop piracy
That's pretty hilarious
how do the firms that carry out these mass settlement demands operate? are they basically torrenting their own movie (or hiring someone else to do that) and grabbing the ips of their peers?
I dont think you have to torrent the movie to get a list of publicly avaliable seeders. Not an expert though.
Also there is the fact that they prey on legally illiterate people and back off when they see any resistane because all they want is the money and legal costs nullify the puny 300 dollars. It is pretty much blackmailing, give us the money or we'll sue you.
Basically this. They're hoping you'll just send them the money uncontested.
Because legal battles over piracy aren't easy. You can get logs to prove that it took place, but pinning it on a specific person is difficult.
Ip addresses typically aren't enough either even with the time logs. they usually have to grab info from your social media about how you pirated something or try to fool you into a lie detector test.
i just looked up what this movie is and it sounds so fucking bad
i think watching the film was probably punishment enough

It's bad in the absolute best way. It's the kind of ridiculously dumb almost nonsensical action shlock that hasn't really been a thing since like the 90s and it's incredibly that it even got made and even got to theaters.. So if you like that sort of stuff, this movie would be right up your alley. If you can stomach all the bad CGI, that is.
I'm guessing they're trying to make up for the fact that the film is shit and no one wanted to go see it lol

Speaking of polygraph tests, fun fact. If you're ever put on one, clench your asshole every time they ask you a question, and hold it while you're answering. I'm not kidding. Your sphincter has so many blood vessels in it that it changes your blood pressure noticeably when you clench, throwing off their readings completely. Hard for them to find discrepancies when every question they ask has a corresponding increase in your blood pressure as a response.
My parents bought tickets to see this because my mother thought it was A-Team level violence or something, but after she was told there was blood and probably mean words in it she declined going. No one else in the house wanted the tickets and we had to phone around the family to find someone willing to go see it for free.

This chick took me to see it when it first released and it sucked pretty hard. I wouldn't waste the bandwidth to download it.
Felt like I was better off staying home and watching Die Hard or something.

Precisely. The movie basically came out 15 years too late, and I absolutely love it for that.
Mike Banning is a boss :v:
They should be paying me 300 dollars to compensate the time I sat watching this shitty movie.

That's an easy way for the polygrapher to fail you because you're obviously trying to beat the physiological mechanism of the test, when in reality the test is a psychological examination by the polygrapher to deduce your self-perceived guilt or innocence and effectively refusing to answer the questions is an enormous red flag. You might as well just refuse to take the polygraph, it'll have the same effect.
But it's not like they can determine guilt from refusing to take a polygraph right?
The results either way are inadmissible in court. There is no reason they would put you through a polygraph test. They're only used for employment decisions and dumb spouses that want to find out if you're cheating on them.
who in the arse would pirate this film anyway
I'd let them take me to court, I'm sure the EFF would like to get angry at them for blackmailing them.
I imagine it'd be easy for malware to "torrent" stuff to get the attention of them.
Don't want Pirated films? stop ripping people off for shit films then cunts!

London has fallen is one of the worst movies i've seen of all time, and not even in a good way. It's just shit.

Doesn't it always ;) besides why don't people just stream it online or other alternatives... Sure the quality will be lower, but it's not like it matters for this movie :smug:
