A man dressed as a construction worker took a sledgehammer and a pickax to Donald J. Trump’s star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame early Wednesday morning, smashing the sidewalk symbol and attempting to remove it, according to a witness and the police.
A spokeswoman for the Los Angeles Police Department, Officer Norma Eisenman, said the authorities received a phone call reporting the attempt at about 6 a.m. The defaced site was later secured, and a tent placed over the star, Officer Eisenman said.
The witness, Dominic Patten, a senior editor at Deadline Hollywood, which initially reported the news, said the man told him he wanted to auction the star and raise money on behalf of the nearly dozen women who have accused Mr. Trump of sexual assault or sexual harassment.
Vandalism is still vandalism.

Yeah, uh, even if that was your plan what the fuck made you think you could chip it out and sell it? lol
Even you don't like Trump, that's a dick move to do
i wonder if he realizes that it's just going to get replaced with no cost to trump
with this election having such a shitty political climate in particular, this isn't surprising at all.
That's just retarded, random acts of destruction will make your opponents less likely to believe your cause.
This is extremely stupid. I doubt he cares and this just gives his followers an excuse to point fingers at clinton supporters and yell about how violent leftists are.

Doesn't it cost the city of Los Angeles
from the article, happened on july 20

that's a much more clever way of protesting without causing any actual damage
Doesn't it cost the city of Los Angeles
If prosecuted, the guy will likely have to foot the bill for the replacement. Given the materials used and the time to replace the entire piece it will probably cost him between $5000-$7000.

hollywood chamber of commerce it looks like

Wait, Trump has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for his contribution to broadcast television? Was The Apprentice really that big?

that can't be right

The difference between literal constructive and literal destructive methods of protest.
Wait, Trump has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for his contribution to broadcast television? Was The Apprentice really that big?
It spawned tons of spinoffs in other countries. Sweden had one.

Yes. It was so big that they replaced him with Arnold Schwarzenegger
Acts of vandalism by sore babies on either side are pathetic.
that can't be right
The cost of labour really skews most repair jobs. I wish I could tell you how much it reflects some of the repairs I've had to do at work because someone smashed a piece of glass.

Actually according to one of the many articles about Trump's star being defaced during the year, he's already paid for it. Apparently when you get a star, you have to pay an upfront fee of $30,000 that covers the star's installation and maintenance for years to come.
What a dumb thing to do.
Has a hollywood star been defaced like this before? Will he get a replacement?

That seems odd considering there's a restoration project going on being paid for by the chamber of commerce + local governments, and the money for installation is supposed to be paid by the people that nominated the person

also, there's a video of this

Ah yes, the trademark of a respectable political move, vandalizing your opponents property. Because that always makes your side seem respectable, and not full of retards with sledgehammers.
Even you don't like Trump, that's a dick move to do
People are stealing Trump signs all over the country, a handful are even keying Trump cars, it was only a matter of time until someone went after permanent structures.

I fucking get not liking the guy, hating him even, but jesus christ people need some self control.
All this is doing is making you look bad.
People are stealing Trump signs all over the country, a handful are even keying Trump cars, it was only a matter of time until someone went after permanent structures.
That's true of every election and every party/candidate, however.
People are stealing Trump signs all over the country, a handful are even keying Trump cars, it was only a matter of time until someone went after permanent structures.
even in Chicago (historically so heavily democratic and high population, the rest of Illinois petitions to have the city broken off of the state so they can feel like their more rural-oriented voting habits matter), you were gambling your car's paintjob wearing an obama/biden sticker even long after both elections had ended. People make targets of any political symbol they can find when they have frustrations to vent and are shitty enough to take it out on people like that
if you've never seen people yoinking yard signage you're delusional. A bigger problem I've experienced is people fucking planting political signage up and down neighborhoods in yours and your neighbors' yards without permission. I don't care who you're campaigning for, that's beyond crossing lines
I'd rather see the star removed officially by the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, assuming the accusations of sexual assault are true. An individual who acts heinously should not be allowed special recognition and praise, imo.
EDIT:
Actually, after reading this article (http://www.nbcnews.com/storyline/bill-cosby-scandal/answer-no-bill-cosbys-hollywood-walk-fame-star-staying-put-n390836) I may have changed my mind.
The Hollywood Walk of Fame is treated more like a timeline or script of achievements in entertainment. For good or bad, they remember everyone. They're not even removing Bill Cosby's star.
Hope that criminal record was worth it.
