The memory sticks are still much but I'm going to assume Amazon will have the marked down even more now, maybe even another $20, making them actually half affordable.
they could've just, idk, made it use SD cards?

Gotta recover losses on the handheld itself. What better way than to sell a massively marked up peripheral that is required if you remotely want to use the console? Just look at PS3 Dualshock 3 controllers, they retail around £40.
How much is the cost to use 3G on the 3g model?

I think it depends on the carrier you go with. I don't think they are locked to any particular carriers normally.

That's a controller. There is no universal game controller.
Anything can use SD cards. Sony just wanted to go proprietary.

There is such a thing as a universal game controller if people agreed to a standard for input mapping (SD is a standard for flash storage, the analogy worked fine in other words). Sony went propriety because it's easy money, as has every other console manufacture except Ouya (who made a laughable attempt at a controller).
Every console ever has had it's own controller and that is never going to change ever.
For the 3G model can you still use your home's wifi to play online?

3G model has wifi but you can't use the 3G for multiplayer so it's not worth the higher pricetag plus the plan.

Wait you can't?
I'm not getting the 3G model anymore
Haha, I just got a second hand PSP E1000 yesterday, my old one still works but it's a fat white and can't read memory cards.
I'll probably wait till PS4 comes out till I get a Vita.

99% of games dont support 3g play.

Sony always had that fetish with Memory Stick.
The cost for royalties is partly the reason why everyone stopped using it.
