You must escape through a shaft, and in Uncharted fashion, you begin climbing. You must dodge the falling debris as you make your way up, and it's all done in first-person. There's no QTEs here; this is gameplay, and it's unlike anything I've seen in Halo before. It's also absolutely thrilling.
I can't imagine this being unlike Uncharted 3's way of heavily railed non-QTE gameplay that made up about 40% of it.
Lensflare alarm!
Oh man I love Halo, universe and it's artstyle, can't wait! :D
Man, the new atmosphere looks intimidating.
It looks fucking great and I would love to feel scared while playing.
fuck yeaaaa
I wish November 6th would get here faster.
Knights are aggressive, moreso than Knights...
I see.
I personally dislike the artstyle. The first game one was really colorful, but the screenshots here have way too much grey, and the guns and armor look...overdetailed and cluttered. Just my opinion though. That said, the graphics are great, especially for consoles.

These screenshots might be a bit dreary but the gameplay demo they showed off at E3 was as colorful as ever.
At any rate, I'm still not sold on Cortana's redesign but the rest of the game sounds fantastic.
Cortana looks less and less hologram-like every game, but I think that's a minor gripe for an otherwise increasingly solid series.
Oh, one other thing: WHY THE FUCK IS THE CROSSHAIR OFF-CENTER SINCE HALO THREE

To match up with where the gun is pointing without making the gun take up 1/3 of the screen.
the hud has a metroid style to it now

I really wish they brought back the little health segments to go with the rechargeable shield, like in Halo 1. Otherwise, it looks good, and I can't wait until it's released.

They gave a canon reason as to why they werent in Halo 2 and 3 and changing it back to how it used to be would contradict that.
I'm curious to see why the Covenant are back. I mean, we were allies with the Elites in Halo 3, and now they're enemies again? I hope there's a reasonable explanation.
Story-wise I feel like they should have dropped Master Chief.
His story arc pretty much ends with Halo 3, and seeing how they changed his armor quite a lot they really should have made something else rather than pushing the story on, while Halo 3 felt like a cozy little place to stop at.
Hell, even making a game where the goal is to find back Master Chief as either another spartan or a human would have been more interesting than merely being the chief once again.
The whole thing feels shoehorned to me.

It's kinda explained actually.
First of all Elites =! Covenant. The Covenant is an alliance of several species, it was created by the prophets and the elites, but it includes a lot more various forces.
In Halo 2, the prophets essentially downgrade the Elites. Most if not all of them get angry, leave the Covenant entirely, and start a war against it.
Some of the elites including the Arbiter choose to help the humans out. In Halo 3, you are helped by these elites.
After Halo 3, the elites have left Earth and went back to their home planet.
The elites you fight in halo 4 are either renegades who have not heard of a truce, or elites who have willfully refused to obey it.
Oh by the way there is a lot of lore elements that you will never find in the games and you have to buy the ton of books and read them all to understand the full lore which is just a fucking pain in the ass.

If they managed to explain a brand new shiny armor that built itself while M.Chief was sleeping with NANOBOTZ then I'm sure they could find a shit excuse for health segments as well.
This is the first Halo game I'm considering about purchasing for myself rather than just playing someone else's.
I'm pretty sure the canon reason the crosshair is so low is to compensate for John's height.

His story arc did not pretty much end at Halo 3, the final cut scene had him flying towards Requiem. It was very obvious Halo 4 would happen at that moment, as MC. Making a game where the goal is to find chief, what? Everyone thinks he is dead! This wouldn't be a sequel to Halo 3 if you weren't following Chief and Cortana, which we do have much to explore in their shoes too.

It's a good thing when a game universe has more backstory to it than just what you see in the games.

Would be better if that backstory was already in the game though.
See how Mass Effect had an entire encyclopedia that you could totally ignore, but if you wanted to know more about that or that topic you could always go check it in there.
Halo has the flaw of relying on books even for basic lore elements. It wouldn't have hurt to have everything you'd like to know in an encyclopedia, which would make sense given you have an AI aboard for a good part of the series, and given you are a Spartan which as humanity's finest killing machine I guess would have access to some sort of intel on whatever he's shooting at. Something a bit more developed than "oh look aliens who are part of a giant interstellar sect who wants to wipe out all of existence in the universe go kill 'em".

Oh and personally I've kinda had enough of 117 as well. He's one of those characters that just has no interest to me.
This game is shaping up much better than I expected.
Some of the guns seem a tad unsatisfying however.

The books are written on like a 5th grade reading level, and they're all 2 or 3 hundred pages long, don't complain because you have to read something to understand a very extensive sci fi universe.

I'm fine with using books to create an expanded universe where the games don't show, but there shouldn't be required reading just to get what's going on in a game plotwise, just to understand the deeper aspects of the lore.
