Last Friday Owasso student Abigail McVicker, a junior was in a serious auto accident. She had to be cut out by the jaws of life and then be life flighted to Saint Francis. She failed to make a curve in the road and hit a cement column, head on. She has a broken femur, hip, and pelvis on the left side and a shattered ankle with stitches on her foot on the right side, broken vertebrae by her tail bone, a ruptured spleen, a concussion, and stitches from the air bag. Because she was wearing her seat belt she is still alive. She had surgery yesterday getting placed on her ankle and tailbone and a blood transfusion. Everything went well as planned. She is expected to be in a wheelchair for 3 months and then crutches an additional 3 months. She won’t be walking for a while. She has a hospital bed that will go home with her and she’s not allowed to do anything besides lay in bed or sit in the wheelchair. She will not return to school this year. She is expected to make a good recovery from this Her spirit is about as positive as it can be, but she is really crushed right now. The only car her family had is now wrecked. Meghann Turner, English II teacher at the Mid-High and assistant volleyball coach is on a quest to get the family a car,and this is where we are hoping to get some help from the community. Ms Turner has talked with Classic Chevrolet about getting Abby and her family a small, dependable SUV or large car. It would have to be something accessible for someone to lift Abby in and out of while she is in her wheelchair. The owner told Ms Turner he could get something at wholesale (Approx $5,000) . I know with the awesome community we have right here in Owasso, we can raise this money and even exceed it and still have money left over to help with hospital bills. That's awful that it happened, but I'm curious as to how the crashed happened. I don't know how a person could miss a curve in the road unless something was distracting you.

How the fuck is she still alive? The entire front half of the car is completely wrecked!
How the fuck is she still alive? The entire front half of the car is completely wrecked!
Notice how the seat and surrounding area is clear. Cars are designed to utterly disintegrate, but that's to protect you.
How the fuck is she still alive? The entire front half of the car is completely wrecked!
They're designed to flatten out to take the impact
She must have been fucking cruising to do that much damage.
Texting probably, and judging from how bad that was, she had to have been fucking flying.
could have been anything, wet roads, going slightly fast round a tight bend can easily make your car slip out. I hope she gets better soon, and this is a really nice thing to be doing

So she was probably going faster than that when she tried to take the turn. I'm not trying to be mean or anything, but it is probably her fault.
Poor girl :( she is quite pretty too.
How the fuck is she still alive? The entire front half of the car is completely wrecked!
Could be anything from inattentiveness to a steering problem. Maybe she was texting. Maybe she dozed off. Maybe she had to scratch her eyebrow. Maybe the outside front tire was low and quietly went flat? Maybe the power steering let go and she wasn't strong enough to steer it anyway? No telling, and with that much damage there's no way to tell now.
I wonder how this happened
Is that blood? It looks like red paint.
Donated 4 dollars for her. All I could spare. But hey, atleast it's a start!

It's amazing how car crashes work. I was involved in a car crash 2 months, my car swerved out of control and flipped over in the middle of the highway as it hit one of the defense barriers, yet I escaped entirely unharmed, no fractures not even bruises, in fact I crawled out of it through a back door that still worked. This girl misses a curve and ends up fucked up for life. What an ugly feeling it is when you just happen to be luckier than others who seem more deserving of it.
I couldn't tell what the hell the picture was until I looked really close.
Ok, first using foul launguage on a forum shows you have no class what so ever. When are posting you might want to find out the facts before you judge. I'm sure you have gone over the speed limit and was just lucky you were not involved in a accident. Which that is just what it was an accident. To clear things up she wasn't texting. It was due to road conditions. [editline]12th December 2011[/editline]
Donated 4 dollars for her. All I could spare. Knowlege is power.
Is that blood? It looks like red paint.
A common thing I see with highschoolers is that they like to write shit on each others windows.
How the fuck is she still alive? The entire front half of the car is completely wrecked!
From the list of injuries it sounds like her lower body got squeezed up like an accordion. Broken bones from her feet all the way up to her pelvis. With the plates and screws she should be able to walk again. Probably not run or jump, but at least walk, limping or not. She might have to use a cane or something. Plus massive broken bones like this can lead to arthritis in the next 10-15 years. She's going to need the help she gets. I was going to say I bet she's feeling really crushed right now, but I see I was already beaten to that joke:
She is expected to make a good recovery from this Her spirit is about as positive as it can be, but she is really crushed right now.
here's an xray: I feel bad for that girl
