Yeaaaah. I got this laptop hard-drive (Western Digital Scorpion Blue 640 GB) for Christmas. Now over the last couple of days Disk Utility (running OS X..It's a Macbook3,1) keeps reporting that the disk is failing. I checked it with a SMART diagnostic tool, and it says Reallocated Sector Count is the failing test. Should I ACTUALLY be worried? I have NO way to back my stuff up unfortunately. No blank DVDs, can't AFFORD blank DVDs, no extra hard-drives, no external drives that work. I must be cursed.
I also noticed that Windows partitions keep fucking themselves up (I've been doing a lot of partitioning recently, which might be the cause of this issue. Dunno though.) eg bootloader missing, windows files randomly going bad, disk error on boot...
Depending on how much data you have, you could upload it somewhere as a backup.

No internet access either. Parents' can't afford it. I have to leech off the wifi in the neighborhood..which is hooked up to something with extremely crappy upload speeds.

I did quick read of the Western Digital RMA policy there and I would recommend you contacting them as soon as possible
It was an OEM...
By that I mean it wasn't a retail box or anything.
You'll still be able to attain a RMA number.
Okay, I can still RMA it. Will do that ASAp.
Thank you :)

When you said OEM, were you refering to the drive arriving in "OEM packaging" instead of "Retail packaging", or was the hard drive taken out of an OEM PC?

This would make me presume that it had OEM packaging, though I never thought of that, fair question.
