• 2nd RAM stick of ram messing up (need help choosing better quality ram)
    8 replies, posted
Alright, In july I purchased 2 4gb ddr3 corsair vengeance sticks of ram, and one messed up late august. So since then i've been running on only 1 stick of 4gb ram, but some of my games have been crashing and i got another BSOD.(as of Wednesday) I ran memtest again, and i got a ton of errors. (Could it possibily be that one socket being messed up?) This is my motherboard: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819116505&Tpk=Intel%20Core%20i5-3550%20Ivy%20Bridge%203.3GHz%20%283.7GHz%20Turbo I'm not quite sure what would be my best/cheapest option for replacement RAM, thus I'm asking you guys. If I missed any information/ you need more just ask! not quite sure what I need to provide. Thank you!
That link you have provided linked us your Processor, not your Motherboard. We need exact information on your computer. Download CPU-z - http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/cpu-z.html Without all the information provided by CPU-z, we will NOT help you. But, you can do something quick: Pull out the RAM stick that you are using right now. Insert the second one - the one that is probably broken - into the same RAM socket the first module was in. If the second one is gonna work properly here, then it's your motherboard's fault.

And do you want pictures of each tab, or the text file?
Well, now I've seen everything. Let me recommend something for you. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820104218 Buy four of these or two of 4GB ones and you're all set up. Kingstons became pretty cheap and efficient these days. 14$ for 2GB. Edit: I'd just like to say, that I am using Vengeance LP memory myself. Probably the same ones you use - 4GB DDR3 1600MHz. Apparently, I am lucky they didn't broke. Even at a 4x4 (16GB) setup.

And having a 16GB setup would just make everything run even faster right?
It's highly unlikely that you will use all 16GB of RAM unless you use RAM heavy applications. It also isn't gonna make everything run faster. In this case what do you define as "faster"? What are the specs of your computer? It's likely failed RAM is the victim considering your memtest. If so then you can claim under its lifetime warranty instead of buying a new pair. I know this is 2 days late but I hope this would still be of help if you come back again.
Does it matter which one I would choose? And having a 16GB setup would just make everything run even faster right?
Fun fact: Kingston doesn't make their own RAM, and haven't for probably at least a decade. Neither to most other RAM companies. All RAM chips used by common RAM brands are all made by just a handful of manufacturers (Toshiba, Samsung, Micron, Hynix, Nanya, Qimoda.) Buying Kingston over Corsair because you think Corsair is crap from having bad sticks from them is misplaced blame because they likely all come from the same factory somewhere over in Taiwan.
bohb is right. Besides basing your entire opinion on one problem with a single RAM provider doesn't make the whole provider bad. I've had my 2x2GB Corsair XMS3 ram turn bad a few months ago, one stick was riddled with errors. I replaced them with 2x4GB Kingston HyperX RAM and all is running fine. But in the future I'm not going to rule out buying from Corsair. As long as you stay away from "ValueRam" you'll be fine. At least it was the RAM in your system that fucked up, RAM is cheap to replace/upgrade.
Value RAM is just binned chips that won't run at the tight timings required for performance sticks. Value RAM usually has a much longer lifespan as well since they aren't being run hotter and near their design limits. Value RAM is like an old tractor engine; It's detuned and derated so much that it'll go on forever if you treat it right.
